there is no spoon (photo challenges)

Can you guess what is on this spoon?  (the answer is at the end of the post- and it is not sugar)

I had a different idea for the wpc angle challenge, but this spoon resting on an angle caught my eye! The “crystallographic lattice” has a variety of small angles…

The sparkle was purdy and so I am also linking to Narami’s texture challenge!

When I set this spoon down for a pic, I realized the base was our old mahogany desk, and mahogany is JNW’s word of the week..

Also, for those that don’t know, the term “there is no spoon” is from an old Movie Called The Matrix – (here)

“The spoon exists only in the Matrix, which really means it doesn’t exist.

It’s a lesson for Neo, to help him realize that manipulating the Matrix isn’t about focusing on an object and trying to change it. The object doesn’t exist, so he can’t change it, he has to change himself. Metaphorically, it’s all in his head.”

JNW’s one word challenge: mahogany

there is no spoon

THE ANSWER:

The spoon has borax and baking soda on it.

I dissolved some borax and baking soda in a glass of hot water to add to an alkalizing bath – but I decided to not use it and the glass and spoon sat over night – the pictures show what the spoon looked like after sitting in the dissolved mixture overnight.

Hope you have a nice rest of your Sunday!

    1. Hey Yoshiko – Borax does have a similar granule feel to sugar, but it is much softer

BTW – Borax is really good for cleaning stainless steel, fine china, laundry, and carpets – It is also wonderful for skin – and feet 🙂 not every day though) –
and in the photo I have baking soda to the right – which as I am sure you know is more of a powder – and is all natural and have a ton of uses…. actually I think they are both pretty amazing products.

  1. I just applied to a show at the Sloan cancer centre in New York. It is my first big one I’ve got my fingers and toes all crossed. You should go and check my work out. I do love the crystal spoon. It does make for a very interesting image. Great work

  2. I would never have guessed this. One photo make me think of dissolving aspirin in sugar water (this is what my mom used to do to encourage us to swallow the pill when we were sick).

    1. wow – that was a good idea your mum had – and it reminds me of that song “just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down….” lol

    1. Hi Aisha – well borax is controversial to use as an oral supplement in some countries – esp. Germany (some folks say Big Pharma is to blame for this because they cannot patent this natural mineral and then seek it for big bucks) and so if someone does not want to take it orally (or in an enema)
an EASY way to see if your body needs this boron mineral is try it in the bath (and the skin is the largest organ and can absorb it naturally) – and well, even if someone is not feeling any ill symptoms, we all come into contact with heavy metals over the years – and all the more if we were exposed to fluoride treatments at the dentist. in our water and through toothpaste. (argh….)

Also, my great aunt down in Florida used borax to remove hard calcium bumps from her ankles – and borax is a wonderful exfoliator for the skin – so many uses and it is all natural. 🙂

oh – and baking soda is win-win to use around the house if anyone has allergies. It can get rid of fungi and molds – molds are very different from fungi and the baking soda is safe for air and just has a very purifying effect for bedrooms and bathrooms – a little sprinkle can go a long way….. and some people drink a glass of baking soda water (just a teaspoon) to alkalize the body and sooth the 28 feet of intestines that aslo house the mucosa lining where our immune system works from – and bs helps with digesting certain heavier foods – but always in moderation, right! 🙂

      1. Oh, thanks, this is really helpful! I love the idea of a skin exfoliator – Egypt is incredibly dusty, and doesn’t mix well with a sweaty pre-menopausal woman, I’ve been hunting something useful for this! I have to take baking soda in water at night, too – it’s perfect for balancing the acid that I seem to be so overly sensitive to now in my bladder… all related to the age issue, I understand, what a pita! I can’t eat oranges or drink lemonade anymore, it’s crazy, but the bs restores the balance in half an hour, it’s great, thank God! I was thinking about this issue when you mentioned the bath – what great thinking about absorbing through the skin!
Thanks for the great answer, and the video link, too ♥♥♥;^)

      2. Hahaha oh yeah, I forgot to say, you are really right about bs in moderation, I once used too much and seemed like I was drunk – dizzy and sick, very unhappy bad idea – I’m a lot more careful now, lol! ♥♥♥;^)

      3. well thanks for sharing your story – and I was laughing at the drunk feeling you said you got – well not laughing, but you know what I mean. And I heard that if folks are using baking soda to alkalize – they should take lots of breaks – (and work up to an amount that never exceeds two teaspoons in a day – but less can be powerful too).

anyhow, your comment reminded me of a recent wiseGEEK article about “auto-brewery syndrome” – (which is another reason why I really believe that most adults need to do a gut cleanse – to clean out the intestinal tract and then keep it clear so the mucosa lining can work efficiently)….

“Auto-brewery syndrome, also referred to as gut fermentation syndrome, is a rare and little known condition in which a person can become drunk without the consumption of alcohol. It is thought to occur as a result of an excessive amount of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the yeast used to make beer, wine, and other alcohol, in the gastrointestinal tract. The yeast is then thought to ferment with consumed carbohydrates into alcohol in the blood rather than metabolizing it in the bloodstream for energy. In the reported cases, after the consumption of foods rich in carbohydrates, such as fruit, bread, and pasta, the person’s blood alcohol level will increase to the point of being legally drunk.”

        More about auto-brewery syndrome :

The first documented cases of auto-brewery syndrome were in Japan, which reported 12 instances of the condition by 1972.
        more here: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-auto-brewery-syndrome.htm

(also… fungi in the gut is a silent, but dangerous and overlooked condition – but it is prevalent because people have usually had antibiotics for something – which wipes out everything and then messes up the inner flora – and then if they eat even a bit of sugar it can cause the yeast levels to rise – but most people eat a lot of sugar and then take more antibiotics – and so without realizing it – they can have a systemic candida infection – or other microbial imbalance – that leaves them feeling bad and vulnerable to illness)

  3. What an inventive mind you have Y, very interesting angle! on the challenge and like every one else I had no idea what it was. Now I have some interesting info for you about borax. Our 39 y.o. son had very painful back problem, he found on the internet recommendations that borax can help with curing arthritis. It is a refined borax not the one you clean your sinks with. He sent away for the product and after 3 weeks he now has no back pain at all.

    1. wowwwww – on the way borax helped his spine – and I believe it to – this tetrabrate is a mineral with healing properties unlike anything else (good article about it here – called the Borax Conspiracy)
and they note the arthritis helps your son found,

and also note that small amounts can be taken to strengthen bones:

“Boron deficiency causes greatly increased amounts of calcium and magnesium to be lost with the urine. A borax supplement will reduce the daily loss of calcium by nearly 50%. As this calcium comes mainly from resorbed bone and teeth, boron deficiency may be the most important factor in causing osteoporosis and tooth decay.”

“Boric acid at the dose of a filled capsule worked even in cases of drug-resistant Candida and against all the tested pathogenic bacteria.”

“Borax, similar to the equally endangered Lugol’s iodine solution, can also be used to remove accumulated fluoride and heavy metals from the body (14). Fluoride not only causes bones to deteriorate, but also the pineal gland to calcify and the thyroid to become underactive. Borax reacts with fluoride ions to form boron fluorides which are then excreted in the urine.”
and here is a personal story that the article refers to:

“7 years ago thyroid cancer, the next year adrenal fatigue, then early menopause, the following year uterine prolapse followed by hysterectomy – the following year fibromyalgia and neuropathy. Early Childhood was fluorinated water along with fluoride tablets. Fall of 2008 I was looking at total disability. I could barely walk and couldn’t sleep because of the pain and was throwing up daily from the pain in my back. … After reading about fluoride I came to understand where all of my problems originated. … I began the borax detox of 1/8 tsp in a litre of water and within 3 days my symptoms were almost gone.”

wow – and thanks for sharing Pomme!!
      🙂

      1. I think it is a case of the big drug companies just do not want these natural remedies widely known about it will affect their drug sales. My son swears by it and is going to give Jack some to see if it will help his knees.
        Thanks for the link.

      2. I agree Pomme – and hope it helps his knees –

Oh, and another to consider for knees is MSM – which is also good for sooooooooo many things too.
So maybe check it out when you get a chance – one article is here
I can share more later – but MSM is really is great for internal cleansing too – but it is also mixed with other things for “joint support” – I heard some people do not see results with it because they take too little –

“MSM is an abbreviation of methylsulfonylmethane, an organic form of sulfur. The chemical formula of MSM is CH3SO2CH3. It is the form in which sulfur appears in nature in all living organisms, and in which it is biologically active. MSM is an odorless, white, crystalline powder that is highly soluble in hot water and in a wide range of organic solvents (1). Biologically active sulfur has incredible preventive and therapeutic properties. The medicinal properties of biological sulfur are profound, and they are also based on obvious principles. Because of these characteristics, the discovery of biological sulfur’s role in health, and the process that enabled its successful delivery in supplemental form, are generally considered among the biggest advances in orthomolecular medicine in the second half of this century.”

    1. thanks Rommel – and Borax is a mineral – tetraborate – and it has some wonderful uses for the garden – around the house – and on the human body – especially for some folks who need to heal from something – but I think the best thing I like it for is laundry – especially for messy sports clothes of kids – ha! 🙂

    1. well thanks for checking it out – and seriously, I think this is one of those things that looked better in person – the picture does show the glisten – but in the natural light – it looked like diamond like – maybe that is because borax is a mineral…. 🙂 and baking soda is from the mineral “natron” – well either way – it was pretty cool. 🙂 ❤
