Throwback Thursday (steak, tomato, and brrrr)

Thursday Special is RED – and seeing that it is also a Throwback Thursday  – I have to share this Valentine’s Day steak photo (red meat baby) from 2007 – sorry about the glare, but this is a picture I took with my much-loved Razr phone.

Remember those Razr phones?

I sure do….

And when we watch reruns of The Bourne Identity – with Jason Bourne – well we see those Razrs in use and just smile.

valentines day steaks 2007

The store that sold these Valentine’s Day steaks – Ukrops – was a cool, upscale store in the Richmond area, but they went out of business and left many people displaced (not us because we did not really shop there regularly). However, we have a Wegman’s coming our way, which is a store that I grew up within WNY!  Very excited about that.

~

Now for those of you that are not into steak – here is another old photo from 2007 – an organic red tomato grown out back – not perfect in shape –  but perfect in every other way…. mmmmm

red tomato

Okay – how about one more old school photo? This one is going wayyyy back… to 1995:

hanging lake 1995
This is me at hanging lake in 1995 – (and I think I see a reddish hue in this photo) also- not sure if you can tell – but my feet are outside of my shoes because I was SO cold – brrr – and I was warming my feet with some of those disposable hand warmers placed inside my low boots….

….if you need a pick me up – why not listen to a throwback song or remember a good time you had… (or not)

Have a great day….

  1. Love your end throwback pic. 🙂 Looks like you’re having your moment in a very nice setting. It is unexpectedly icy raining here in Crete. Maybe I’ll have a moment too. :d

  2. Love the pictures, especially the lakeside shot. Love the Wegmans too. Just got a notice in the mail that our local one is remodeling and adding a juice bar and some other improvements. They are unlike any grocery store I know.

    1. ooo – a remodel – well I bet the remodeled version will be awesome – and for us = I think that the Ukrops that used to be here is actually one of the reasons why Wegmans did not make it here yet. People still talk about Ukrops –

  3. I will have the “Cold” challenge too – you should have saved the last one for that 😀 I am wondering – what is the perfect tomato shape for you? I mean.. I really like how this one looks!

    1. Hi C- well that Razr was truly a fav – and I guess edgy at the time – I worn mine out for sure…
and the steaks – I think that was the Butcher behind that shape -this Ukrops store had the best meats – including a cheddar-bacon burger – bleu cheese one – and a few other custom patties that were so good esp. for entertaining….

  4. Great seeing the Throwback Artsy you, warming the out-of-low-boot feet northerner style, Y.

And, hey, a Wegmans alum, huh? I just made a Wegmans run for a storemade chef’s salad for lunch today. Can’t make it at home with all those fresh ingredients for six bucks. 🙂

    1. thanks Mark! and those warmers rescued me. and now that teased me – to wish that ours was coming soon. and I am getting ready to go and see my mom down in FL and well, one of my other favorite stores is called Publix – and they have boar’s head cold cuts that are nitrite free and they add them to salads and subs =- and like you said – for cheaper than we could make (and without the hassle) –

  6. All good shots. Each so different from the other evoking different emotions. The first one had me roaring with laughter at the heart shaped steaks. I miss my good old RAZR too. The second one is perfection with the color and the water droplets. And the third truly evokes a sense of chill even with the lovely hint of red. Well done.

The steaks are my favorite 🙂

    1. thanks so much Lisa! and that last photo was with film – imagine that – and those razrs were so heavy duty and well made – and so techy – well who knew a phone could get smarter than that – wow –

      1. I totally thought my RAZR was as high tech as www we’re going to get. And the fact that the third shot was taken with film makes it even more amazing. All I can say is thank goodness for digital because I need to take hundreds of shots to get a few acceptable ones.

        1. I know -:) – film was limited and sometimes costly – but right now… I am cleaning up and sorting so many digital pics – not sure what to toss- not so much for the “space” they take up -(even tho some high resolution shots are crazy big) but it is just too easy to accumulate clutter with digital… hmmm

  7. Well, Yvette, you see, it all began in a little town about … oh, boy, am I red-faced! You didn’t mean to go back that far…! Heehee, just couldn’t help myself. All are great photos! Never had a Razr. Gosh, that last pic looks so cold.

    1. ha! and that hike was one of the coldest I have ever done – but actually – I can tolerate cold a lot more – even extreme cold like that week in glen wood springs. Ironic in a way to now see that I paired the heart steaks in this post- because once I partly thank red meat for that too –
cos when I started eating the right amount of meats – esp. red – for my body type – well I could adjust to co;d more – (something to do with the blood hemoglobin and oxygen) pretty cool…

  8. Excellent post — nostalgic as well as fresh. The hanging lake pic is outstandingly incredible. I mean you stood there and someone clicked the moment from a fair distance. And this was taken in 1995. You should frame it up. Your posts encourage me to think positive. Thanks.

    1. thanks M – ❤ Later on I will try and share a few more pics of this hike – I am not sure how or when I scanned this one in – but I found it while cleaning up digital pics – and now I am curious to see what other ones are in the album from that year….
keep you posted and thanks for dropping by –

    1. Hey Jill! well here is a photo of similar ones, even though I think ours were called “mega warmers” and they sell them at gas stations for cheap – and they help a lot! 🙂

    1. sounds good Indah – and also – glen woods springs is a must visit place when traveling through colordao – a lot of folks go there to vacation – and they have hot springs you can soak in and a few options for activity.

  10. Love your last photo, with the reflections. You look as though you’re standing behind a lectern, and are either about to conduct an orchestra, or read the lesson. Those foot warmers sound like a great idea. 🙂

    1. I am smiling at your reflection on this photo – and actually it has been an unexpected delight – I shared it more of a flashback and it was less about the actual photo – but I guess it is more of a special photo than I expected – and I love when that happens in blogging – and later on I am going to dig out the photo albums to see what other shots I have from that hike or that week in glen wood springs…
thanks S – and the fort warmers saved me – even though a hat would have helped too – because I was wearing one of the ear warmer bands only – and heat leaves the head etc. –

  11. Haha… heart shaped steaks… cheesy but cute! Didn’t know Ukrops was out of business. It is the first supermarket I shopped in, in the US. It was walking distance from my temp accommodation, and without thinking, I bought so much stuff that I had to make 2 trips to carry it back 🙂 Good to see a pic (though very distant) of you, Yvette!
