Downtown RVA – a few more Street Shots

A pair of lights and pair of guys…. Linked to Cee’s Fun Foto Pairs
gluten free beer
This photo could also be linked to Pairs (two ketchup bottles, two beers), but instead – I am linking to JNW’s hot, because how nice it was to have the modern option to try a “gluten-free” beer on a hot day.  It was late afternoon and we went downtown for 2 dollar burger night at Capital Ale House. The service is always good and the burgers seem to be getting larger (when does that happen???) – Anyhow, the gluten-free beer (made by Omission) was fine – really light, but they did not omit the flavor and it was a nice alternative.  Have you ever tried gluten-free beer?

pps-520-dadmanwalking-5-2015
This happy dad gave me a wave and a thumb up, but I missed it when taking the shot – however, I think I caught the joyfulness of their afternoon walk.

pps-518-ladyaurora-5-2015
When I took this photo, someone later asked me if this lady was working as a “woman of the night” – I don’t think so and assume she was just outside using the phone while dining at Aurora… Either way, her hair matched her shoes and I thought this was a nice downtown photo to add to my people shots.

more green lights
More green lights this month! For those who don’t know, “green lights” are my special thing this year. After a very slow moving year in 2014, with what felt like all red lights and many detours – this current year (2015) is my “Green Light Go” year (first post is here) – and if you notice in the lower right, even the “do not enter” sign has a green light above it.    yeah….

What about you?  Do you have a motto, sign, or special word for this year?

Well thanks for visiting and I hope you have a nice  day….

Friday 1- thx bytes

  4. No, I have never tasted gluten-free beer, I made a mental note to try it though. Thanks. Green lights are a great motto. I have so many mottoes that I can’t remember them all – they are in different languages and change on a daily basis. 🙂

    1. Hey Paula – let me know if you do – I was pretty excited that they had this option (and for only 4 dollars)-
also, last week on twitter, Lori Greiner asked her followers who they would be for a day if they could trade places for one day – and at first I picked this master herbalist that I like – but when your blog came up this morning – I thought it would be very cool to be in your shoes for one day – and have all those languages swarming in my mind – like to see what language do you dream in – or if you drop a swear word (you know – at the right time) – well what language is it in… ha!)

  6. Lovely set of photos around town again, Y. $2 burger night? Were the burgers good? Here in Melbourne a good burger costs about $8 and up. Pricey and I really love burgers. Look at that cutie boy, smiling right at you and you caught his happy face. Bet he doesn’t get his photo taken every day 😉 I don’t have a motto or sign or word for this year…okay, maybe more rest and sleep. I need that. We all need that 😀

    1. Hey Mabel – yes, the burgers are very good – this Monday special has been going on for years – nice way for them to generate business on the slowest night of the week – and I think the regular price for a burger there is 8 to 10 dollars – and you can spend more on Monday night if you add toppings…and they also have a black bean burger that is vegan and it is 2$ -I guess they make plenty of money on the beverages
      ~~ I hear you on your motto of rest/sleep – ❤

  7. Yvette, your story about all those green lights on New Year’s Day made me think of Jung and synchronicity! It was auspicious and that’s all there is to it! My word for 2015 would have to be waiting – not so much red lights as orange :).
And that last shot of yours is fantastic!

    Like

    1. so this is a year of waiting… and orange lights? well maybe later this year I can share one of my green lights with you – 🙂 – and you can share one of your great New Zealand steaks – ha! jk 🚥🚥🚥
also, very interesting on the sync and meaning from Jung – and I think you are right – even though you know that I would personally call it a “God appointment” – but I respect that you prefer to keep religion out if it ❤ ❤ ) – okay – have a nice day and thanks for your sweet comment

I know you are not the religious type so I will not even go there about "God appointments" or what I would call diving apointment" vs. Jung's meaning –

  11. Yvette, marvelous photos. And gluten-free beer…what will they not think of next? And calling it “Omissions”…too freakin much, eh! And do you make book covers for everyone?

    1. Hey bf – well would you believe they actually had 5 different kids of gluten-free beer – but that was the one the waitress suggested – now my husband said it tasted like “O’douls” and did not think it had flavor – but I really liked it for a light refreshing beverage – and I can make book covers for anyone – so let me know if you need one – we could maybe use the down view of that beautiful blue and cream colored rug/carpet for the background – 🙂

      1. Ha…thanks. I’m not much of a drinker. And I like lighter (less bitter, and/or “tasty”) brews. But I’m in to gluten, it’s what holds you together. Yeah, I’ve imagined various covers, I like the idea of the rug, or wrinkled paper bag. I’ll have to write the book first!!!

        1. Hi – well speaking of book covers – Christie actually just published hers – so when you saw that in the comment section it was not a project I made – but I think you thought I did. lol – and then with the other one – that I “did” make – well that blogger has a huge collection of poems already –
anyhow, I am glad that you are “into” wheat gluten – ha!
I am not an expert in this area at all, but I did hear that today’s “modified” wheat is not the same thing it was pre-1960’s – and so today’s scientific wheat impacts folks differently – the “Intense crossbreeding created significant changes in the amino acids in wheat’s gluten proteins” and “intolerance to gluten can cause a wide array of symptoms, some debilitating” (more here)
anyhow, for so many folks (obviously not you dear bf) – but this single ingredient is actually pulling from health and causing havoc in the digestive tract. For some people – they are having so many issues that are not properly diagnosed as stemming from the GI Tract – and all health is related to the gut (how heavy the parasite load is, what microbes hung around, fungal hyphae that might have developed, and clogs or mucoid buildup) and related to the toxins that get stored in the fat – anyhow, here is an article to check out
          http://preventdisease.com/news/12/011612_Modern-Wheat-Really-Isnt-Wheat-At-All.shtml
          with a snippet right here:

As if making you hungrier wasn’t enough, early evidence suggests that modern wheat’s new biochemical code causes hormone disruption that is linked to diabetes and obesity. “It is not my contention that it is in everyone’s best interest to cut back on wheat; it is my belief that complete elimination is in everyone’s best health interests,” says Dr. Davis, “In my view, that’s how bad this thing called ‘wheat’ has become.”

        2. OMG…you can’t drink beer, you can’t eat bread, you can’t eat chocolate cake. Pretty soon, you won’t be able to have sex, or you die. Oh wait, already there. The Mayan prophesies were right–this is the end of the world…as we know it.

        3. well first – “I” do not have celiac so I “can” have those items – (but I am doing a year long herbal cleanse) – and I know this stuff sounds extreme – but it really is just smart eating and we loo at what we can have vs. what we cannot – at first it sounds silly to cut out certain breads – but at the end of the day – it all comes down to how healthy are your cells?- how are you metabolizing” – and how do you feel?

If a person is thriving and satisfied with their beer, bread and chocolate cake – more power to them.
But with the increase in antibiotic use for decades – many people start off with gut issues as a child – which then allows their body hosts more potentially harmful “microbes” then normal – which slowly takes a toll with other lifestyle choices to where they have many health problems because of it.
          ]
I heard one person just call some foods “minus” foods – to where they pull from nutrients – and not all chocolate cakes are created equal. 🙂
anyhow, while the average store bread may not negatively impact you – there are some people with illness and cannot absorb their nutrients – which has a lot to do with corrupted food and a clogged GI, – if that makes sense. Like trans fat and HFCS can scar the liver (but you cannot overtly see this) and the glue in today’s glue-like wheat products are not the pure thing of yesteryear –
also, speaking of glue – well sex is meant to be the super glue that holds a marriage together – like sprite after 20 crackers – yet sadly that are oaf life is also sometimes corrupted because of lifestyle choices people make – that pulls from the union instead of sharing what satisfies and solidifies a marriage.

        4. OMG, you should write a book on this stuff. Wait. You just did! I’ve been lucky. I went vegetarian when young, now I’m pretty-much vegetarian. I owned a natural food store during the 70’s (in Aspen). I eat well, never, never took a lot of anitbiotics. Don’t even use that antiseptic hand stuff. And I eat a lot of yogurt. And avocados. And carrots. And I’ve done a fair share of fasting and cleansing over the years. Lucky to be aware of this stuff (like sugar) early on. Good luck with your cleanse, it makes perfect sense to me.

        5. oh that hand stuff irritates me – and how absolutely cool to have that kind of store at that time in that location – not only edgy for the 70’s – but I can just imagine the vibe – and the people coming and going. also, sounds like your body terrain is (and has been strong) strong – and for me – I always stayed away from chemicals as much as I could (like artificial flavors – food paint – um, I mean artificial colorings, and fake anything) and I know that really made a difference – now I make sure to get those variety of healthy fats – drink kefir – have my minerals, etc.

  12. Hello mon amie, boy, how long does it take for me to catch up with you over here? Well, too long, but I am waaaaay behind, as always, and actually, I am just going at the only pace I know how – the one I can manage, ha! Love your street shots and your narrative and descriptions of every one, you pull me in with every one. Green light, yes!! And you had me nodding with the hair and shoes being the same colour, you are so observant! Really enjoyed this Y 😀 ❤
