  1. I was saddened when I saw the photo of the broken cassette tape player. Growing up I had tons of those, especially Disney ones, and my mum would play it in the car and I would happily sing along. They’re pretty much extinct these days in Australia – CDs, vinyl are all the rage here. But they will always hold a special memory in my heart. The two dog comics are hilarious. I often wonder what dogs are barking to one another and if it’s what we really think they are saying to each other. Friday. Yes. Friday. Have a good weekend, Y 🙂

    1. haha – I wonder sometimes too – what they are saying to each other- and we share similar memories with the cassette tapes – oh – and yes, there was some “sounds of zelda” around the house earlier this month – and also thought of you M 🙂

      1. Glad to hear you love cassette tapes too. They were so cheap back then, like a few dollars at most for one. I’m flattered you thought of me when there were strains of Zelda around your house *blush* I pictured you soaking up the sounds and reliving some memories in the family 🙂

    1. well thanks for dropping by – and sorry the quality is a bit low on those comics – the larger version might have made it easier – ya know? anyhow, I just love that comic – as the lady holds her java and walks the park – 🙂

  5. What was that black plastic-y thing that was broken on the ground? You know, in the picture between the torn up cobblestones and the overpass work? 😉 I still have boxes of old cassettes lying around. I tossed many of them, but there is my music that I haven’t digitized yet and most likely never will.

    1. Hi G – well that was taken last year on a Florida trip – and I think it was a broken water pipe – or “routine maintenance” to prevent as break….

  12. Cassettes were so prone to tape jams and a short life, Y. I’ll let you in on my secret: A pencil in the spool hole to slowly reel it back in and unsnarl the snags and tangles.

    But of course you know I am a vinyl oldie but goodie, a man who could live with snaps, crackles and pops on the turntable as long as the dime and penny and nickel on the stylus head would keep it from screaming across the whole scratch.

    Broken, huh? Those bricks are a mess in RVA, my friend. I love your theme this Friday night. Onward we march.

    1. Hi bf – this was in spam – so I am just getting to it – and I am not sure why they take so long to load – I will check on it – but I reduce the size of my photos when I upload to wp – maybe I need to select a smaller size – hm – and thx

  16. My first thought at the broken tiles on the alley was, oh-uh, am afraid to break an ankle there. Beautiful interpretations.

    1. Hey P – well I have to admit that even though so many others have said it – I do get more photos by having the camera phone. and the cassette tape was in a parking lot of a shopping center across town –

    1. Thanks for dropping by Lia – and the cassette tape I captured on the ground was for that song “finally” – I do not ever recall liking it back it then – but I remember it was playing a lot in early 1990’s –

  20. Ah that broken cassette brought back memories… Having to rewind multiple times to listen to your favourite song over and over again… Or to forward to skip the one you didn’t like. Making mixed tapes of your favourites… Using a pencil to untangle the reel. So nostalgic! I really like the pic with the broken brick road… The foreground of the bricks makes it interesting and then the shadows in the red glow draws the eye to the background. Very interesting image!

  23. So many broken bits and pieces, Yvette! Those cassette tapes are almost a forgotten memory. I do remember how my car player used to chew up the tapes. I had throw so many away. 😦 Love the dog funnies. xx

    1. Hi S! 🙂 – and I am so glad you mentioned how the tapes got chewed up – I almost forgot about that – and I recall slicing/taping one together in the 80’s – oh the surgical skills came out. 🙂

  24. I too miss those cassette tapes. I have a ton of mixed tapes that I can no longer play because my old tape decks are now useless. I’m now also have CD’s that are almost obsolete thanks to the IPod. I’m afraid to get an IPod because I know that something is just around the corner that’s going to replace it.

    1. well that is funny you should say that pretty soon the digital stuff on iPods will be obsolete – and I wonder what that would be – you know – to replace digital? but I am sure something is on the horizon – you are so right….
