For Paula’s Black & White Sunday, where we are invited to share both the color and the b & w:

AUTHOR UPDATE (1-22-2016): I forgot to add that this next two photos (with the girl smiling and the bean bags in window) are the windows from the store that the Harvey family used to own – called WORLD OF MIRTH – they were the family that was taken from this world at the hands of Ricky Gray (post is here). The above photo with the man in the hat is the full show of this store front. The smiling girl grabbed my attention because the Harvey Family had two daughters that were tragically and senselessly killed – and when I saw this photo being taken – I realized the Harvey Family store continues to thrive in the community and it must bring lots of children smiles with the colorful window displays…. still sad though.
.

And the next two are for Dawn’s Lingering Look at Windows: January 2017
.
Ok- that is for Sunday – hope you have a great rest of your Sunday and see you tomorrow for DAY 50 of the 365 Days of art…..

I’m always a colour lady but I have to admit that I prefer your black and whites, and no, I wouldn’t have cropped that window either. 🙂 🙂

well thanks, restless Jo. especially for the feedback on that “S” and EURO.

We like how you kept the “S” in and the sync of the legs stands out almost in mirror fashion.

I like the change to black & white-thanks for showing the color too!

(EN) Without that “S” the picture(n2)” doesn’t sound”, there is too much symmetry without it and symmetry sometimes means a static scene. Love all the pictures. Thanks for sharing😊
(IT) Senza quella “S”l’ immagine(n2) “non suona”, c’è troppa simmetria e la simmetria a volte significa una scena statica. Mi piacciono tutte le immagini.Grazie per la condivisione😊

Great windows and smile. I also like the contrast of the color and bw photographs.

thanks – and I forgot to mention that the smile photo was the store that the Harvey Family owned – not sure if you followed the story – and it is sad – so no worries if not – but I just added the update.
and side note – your seeds will be in the way this week!!
🙂

I am probably in the minority, but I almost always prefer black and white to color. I think color often upsets the balance of the composition – unless, of course, you are able to “stage the set.” The camera captures what’s there to BE captured. In real time, the eye edits.
btw- I vote for the S too – the picture is “off” somehow when I cover up that window.

Hi – thanks for your comment – and glad I left the S in….
but I did have aversion with it out and ut changes the vibe completely…
also – that is a pretty big statement to almost always prefer b & w – whew – I think it really depends on so many factors, but good that you know what you prefer – and you have a good point about how the eye makes edits in real time….
have a nice week mgh 🙂

Well maybe that is a BIT of a hyperbole – lol – paintings photographed in b/w would lose much, of course. sunsets, sunrises, many family photos, art where color IS what they play with – etc. – but, for me, there’s nothing like the drama brought by b/w.
You have a nice week too!

got it….
and it was a good point about the sunset and paintings and all – and after I read it I thought “how nice that she came back to add that” – so it was fun to chat – and we all learn so much from each other and there is much value in chiming in with opinions and views – ya know – it’s how we share – but also pay it forward – 🙂

Sometimes black and white photos just become much more atmospheric and tell the story better and I think yours work so well here! The ladies at the table has a certain poignancy, I can’t help but start to wonder what they are talking about so intently and create a scenario in my mind. Thank you for sharing! 😀

well thanks so much for your comment.
and would you believe I was actually going for the green umbrealls – to show my son – because we were all watching the news the day the van drove into these windows – and we were across the street the next day. the umbrellas were a bit more lime back then (they have only been a open a short while)
anyhow, when i got home I saw the lady’s hands open and you are so right – they are talking intently.
her fingers also seemed to be in sync with the lines of the trees…

Thanks A – and I actually have a version with the S cropped out – and it did make it feel static – as forthemo said – ha!
thanks for chiming in….

I enjoyed seeing both the color, and the black and white version of the same photos. Great post! I hope your new week starts in a marvelous way 🙂

I am pretty keen on color but agree that green umbrella is a bit overwhelming in the color version. Definitely with you on leaving the lettering in. Really adds interest I think.
