Thursday Doors (hint of teal…)

Destin, Fla. (2017) (Dan, notice the “a” on my state abbreviation?)
Virginia (2017)

Side note for this next photo:

In one of our rental cars last year (a truck) – that just so happened to be this same bright blue as the Subaru pictured below – well…. while enjoying the rental  – we noted how many extra cup holders the vehicle had – it was awesome because there was at least a dozen.  A few really large, round ones too (we all know the jokes about European cars and how they have only skinny little drink holders).

Anyhow, then (in early January of this year) I saw this in the WSJ – an SUV with 19 cup holders?

19 cup holders?  – wow – do you think that is a lot?

How many cup holders do you think is ideal?

Okay – one more door to close with – white with a teal wall:

  1. I like those doors (thanks for the mention, I think I do prefer ‘Fla’ to ‘FL’ – 19 cup holders seems to ensure that there will be many cups with an ounce or two of soda/coffee/water left in my car. Two cup holders in each row is often not enough, but 19 seems excessive.

    1. well 19 seems too much for me to – but then again – depends on how many in car and what we are going to do….
and for some reason – I seem to recall someone saying
      “efff – L – ayyyy babay….”
      maybe from a movie

  2. Love the color in those first two shots.
I’ve never really thought about size or quantity of cup holders in a vehicle. I guess it’s not an issue for us :-/

    1. Yes – it must not be an issue. In season 1 of Better call Saul there is a great scene where Saul has upgraded to a European car and the very thin cupholder will not hold his cup – (cannot really get into the show – but the cupholder part was really fun and captured what many of us experience)

  3. Love the teal and those doorknobs are fabulous. Cup holders. I know the in thing is more and more of them but as there are only two of us, there are plenty in my van. It has two between the seats and two more that pull out from the dashboard. I always have a water bottle in one of those between the seats and sometimes a travel bottle with tea in the other. There are also some in the back, but I don’t ever sit in the back, so I’m not really sure about those. The third row seats have never been up since we bought this van, because we bought it after both girls were on their own, so that’s a mystery. 🙂 My husband’s car has two cup holders between the front seats and I think that might be it.

    1. thx, Janet
well that was fun to read and interesting how we get to know folks more through various posts – and so now I know the third seat is a mystery still… and maybe it does matter that it is the two of you now – and during child-rearing days more cups might be used – (or on road trips…)

  4. The doorknobs are awesome! nineteen cup holders, I guess one would woo Americans with it. The rest of the world may find it wasteful use of space?

  5. You’ve got some nice doors there! I really like those doorknobs. Okay, extra cup holders in the car are nice but I can’t help thinking that 19 is a bit excessive! Sounds more like a bus!

    1. you are right – does feel bus (or even van)like
and I wonder how sturdy or well-made the knobs are –
last year I bought a paper towel holder that matched these knobs – it cracked in a few months – so I wonder about quality

        1. so “was” my paper towel holder – hah

these knobs might be good – but some of the imports ( I believe these were all from India – my paper towel holder was) are short-life items like IKEA – the only difference is they have the beautiful India designs and a lot of ceramic

  6. I like teal. not too many doors are teal, and you got some good ones. I don’t think I want any car with 19 cup holders. We once had a van conversion that had a removable table stand with additional cup holders. ❤

    1. Thanks Miriam – and you are right – I think white might be the most popular door color (jndoors) and then browns and reds for fronts? who knows… but not a lot of teal for sure….
and I can imagine the table you are talking about in those vans – my cousins had one…. they were so cool

  7. I know this mostly about doors and teal.. but I like the knobs. Those knobs are lovely. From picture, it is difficult to tell whether they door knobs or drawer knobs.

    1. Hi YC – well thanks for the comment about the knobs – but they go on doors and have teal – so it all fits (hopefully – even though the cupholders maybe were a stretch- but blogger liberty means we can go where we want in a post eh? gotta let if flow – and same thing with a comment – in my opinion nothing is too off topic – and do you remember the “culture monk” blogger?? well his comments were sometimes the best convo starters because he went a little off topic….)
anyhow, you are right – they do also look a little like drawer-pulls – and I should have showed something near them for scale.
and I think that is what was so beautiful about them – they were large door handles and normally we only see the ceramic little ones.
I do wonder about the sturdiness of these – that is why I did not buy one.

      1. You are right. For blogs, I think it is less restricted than some forums that I have seen.

That is a good thought about the sturdiness of those knobs. Yes, I think they may not be for good where you really want strong knobs.

    1. Hi – that is a good question.
I cannot answer for everyone –
but on local commutes I have tea (or java) and water. so I need two for me almost always. On a long commute – I might even use three cupholders at once.
on roadtrips tho – things are different. for example, I think I used four cups at one time on our last road trip – but never more.
      I had vitamin c water – a protein drink – etc.
my hubs used to have sunflower seeds on trips (does not anymore) and he would need a cup for the shells…
and so I assume we use a lot – and still not more than 8 – so I am not sure why 19?

    1. you know maybe you hit the nail on something here – the 19 might cater to the third back seat – and so for eight people that is two cups per person and a few extras

  8. Cup holders are important, yo. I love my car. You know the one thing I don’t love about her? The cup holder sitch. Two in the front are nearly even with my hips, and I am not a contortionist. None in the back. None. I hope they will have remedied that when I go in for my new one.
Also, my master bath has pulls much like the ones featured. I like them. Nothing else about that bathroom is interesting. I do believe the prior owners went to the box store, bought all the cheapest sale item makings of a bath and then threw them all in there without thought to color. I bet it was a man. “This is nice tile. This is a nice vanity. This is a nice countertop. This is a nice faucet. This is a nice mirror. If I put all this in there, no one will notice the toilet is from 1956.”
Then the woman came in and put on shiny pretty knobs and hung a pretty cabinet. She closed the toilet lid, stood back and said, “There!”
Oh my, I sorta went off there, huh?
Well your door is good. I like yellow and teal together.

    1. Laughing pretty good how the design unfolded- ha- that was really good….
And sometimes those things are not noticed til u are really in the place – like we visited someone in their new home and they pointed out how cheap the items were (esp hardware thru out) but no way to always get a feel for that – but still u must have a bit of flair in there – and laughing at them saying, “there.”

I also like yellow and teal – esp near coast

And thx for chiming in on cup holders – never thought about hip height but I can see how NOT user friendly those are. And none in back – ? That must be hard and u know – now that I think about it this issue might sometimes be like the house hardware and acessories – some things u just don’t even realize fully until in it and using it.

      1. I did notice when we first saw the house, but let’s face it, the important part is that there IS a master bath! lol
I’m glad you enjoyed my ramble.
The car, I did NOT notice the cup holders. Because who test drives cars with drinks? Hmm, maybe next time. Take the fam for slushies first…

        Liked by 1 person

        1. laughing with the take the fam for slushies – lol
thanks for that Joey – seriously – not sure why I found it extra funny today.
and side note – when my stepdaughter was little and would visit us – slushies were always on the list because at that time they did not have slushies where she lived (or were not on the ok list with her parents there).
but have fond memories of condensation on huge cups and brain freezes cycling through the car – to then have stained tongues and laughs (sugar high and just fun to have icy treats)
but never on a test drive – bah!

and yes yes yes 0 that master bath – crucial
and we had a rental one time (pricey too) with – get this – one bath! talk about lessons learned and looking for what really matters in a house: second (or third) bath – omg

        2. Haha! Yeah, my youngest is a serious slushie enthusiast! As long as they’re not red, they’re on her okay list 🙂

We, as a family of six, had one bathroom for three years. Then we had three bathrooms for seven years. The best answer is to have two, lol, cause having one is often a problem and three is too many to clean!

        3. no red – wonder why?
and blue used to be the big fav here…
with the kids that is – if I got one (big if) it was always a smaller one then theirs and it was the coke one – mmmmmmm

and that is fun – so two it is….
          🙂
although the 2.5 is my personal fav
that half bath for guests means the other two are left alone!

        4. No red, cause like her mama, she’s sensitive to it.
I’ll grant you joy in a third bathroom, but only if someone else cleans the kids’!

  9. Great door and knobs and handles finds! I’ll bet the SUV’s base price will be $30,000 and the 19 cup holders will be in the luxury package upgrade adding $10,000 (cause the structural modifications to the car) 🙂

    1. haha h- I did not think about that – but you are so right.
They will likely be an add -on!

and funny but I recall in the 1980s when AC was an “extra” – between 800 and 1500 to add that! hah

  10. Oh you have picked one of my favourite colours, Yvette. Well most of these coastal, cool shades of spearmint, or blue and teal. It seems to be on trend at the moment, but they has been my favourites for many years. The final photo however has more of a pastel cast, I think, compared to the cleaner bolder shades in the first few phtos. Excellent and intruiging doors that made me want to explore further!!!

      😦 but I rescued it 🙂
and thanks for chiming in here….

and you are right about the ending pastel – also – that was a newly painted room and so you might be right about the trend here
