Priorhouse Notes

Yesterday – Thursday (8-23-18) – was a very special day for me.

Busy, long, enriched, and adrenaline filled.

It went from 6:27 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (and maybe into the a.m. as I sipped tea to wind this body down)

It was also bittersweet with one aspect (something related to my “eating some humble pie” earlier this summer – but it’s all for the good – truly- but the sting is there) and then there was the touch of grief I was carrying (for Mel).

But there was JOY, so much joy yesterday.

There was laughter.

There was sharing human connection – non-stop – (seriously – with some colleagues — strangers — and then family – dang!)

I even had a 4:30 yoga class (with a new teacher – second time I had her and she was kind of an energy specialist -which was fresh)

The MANY little things that happened still have me in awe.

It was also a one-year anniversary for something – and a few people I connected with tied into that.

There were two folks I have been trying to touch base with all summer and I checked that off my list (huge desire of my heart to connect with both of them).

I was able to share square breathing (here) with someone who needed it (and teachers gotta teach – and they feel all pumped up when it is so timely)

I will draft more of a post about “some more” of it later (might be impossible — or take too long — to share about it “all”  – and that is okay because the many details are for me to savor and bask in – cos it was one of those days when the universe lines up in the most special way – and I thank God for it all).

I also want to  make sure I write it down so I do not forget some of the details.

Too easily we have these Aha! days and then time goes by and the wonder is lost as details just get forgotten or never stored.

Like I helped a lady (named May) who had her wallet stolen, and we became friends- and then while sharing with her about Melanie’s passing (cos isn’t it a great reminder that at the end of the day we have the gift of life when possessions will come and go – and sometimes we have possessions lost at the hand of an evil pickpocket – but we are alive and we can problem-solve and not let evil take us down). Then…. a few other folks joined in on the topic of grief and loss (Oh Melanie’s legacy is trickling and her light is not out – because at one point when four of us were talking about grief and loss – there was this human connection that is so fresh and alive – and it was opposite of times when we quiet and pull back to refresh from drain – ha)-

I even grabbed some street shots (and two more mini-interviews).

And of course captured a Thursday Door image – showing us how our personal blogs are sometimes woven into all that we do (not always – but so often) – and the photo I grabbed was this nice, pretty lady (in the doorway) with the “shoe-slippers” on her feet.  WE used to have some of those “shoe-slippers” back in maybe 2007ish? It was when Crocs were really in – the knock-off brands emerged and then variations unfolded – and the faux-wool lined ones were everywhere for a while (and we still them sometimes so I guess some are pretty durable)

I did not even notice her slippers until I got home.

She was actually sharing with us about her ruined (overcooked) steak and how the eatery compensated her.

She was cool and this door picture – whispers of yesterday’s adventure day for me.

It was just one small part of a day that was jam-packed with personal delights.

It was difficult to unwind – going from 6 am to 11 pm –  as my heart was a pumpin’  (well after yoga it calmed a bit – but truly an adrenaline-filled day

    1. hope you have a good lunch.
I have heard MANY folks say the square breathing helps calm children, helps ease into sleep, and helps us use more of a our lungs.
When I am rushing around I start with the three parts of the square. Inhale, hold, and exhale. After about four of those breaths I add the fourth part.
Thanks for reading and chiming in.

      1. I have heard of 3 parts, and when I have problem sleeping, once in a while, I would try this technique (works sometime ;-), but I have never heard of square breathing. I definitely will give it a try. Thanks.

  2. That sounds wonderful. I read the other post of yours after this (wordpress portal puts the later post first) and can understand you had a full life and great day although you needed some boost at the end of the day. Yes, human connection is a great thing and love that too.

  3. My 12 year old daughter keeps me up to date with shoe fashions and these things called “slides”, at least where we live here in Australia.
    Best wishes,

  4. Happy for your joy filled day! Am glad you mentioned the shoe slippers, because I would written you: do you you realize she had her house shoes on? (meaning, the ones you put on when you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night) – so you saved me from another faux pas:)
PS this is my new blog – still Jesh StG

    1. Thanks for the new blog notice (and junieper has a pleasant vibe) and Jesh – they like slippers, or house shoes, to
Me as well. But Rowena helped explain it – I guess there are some indoor and outdoor versions 😉

  5. You’re right, lady with the furry-lined slippers mid-door, does seem to encapsulate your post. We’re in and out of doors all the time, like turning the pages in chapters. Your day, big day, is the kind we sometimes need to have, and then yes, tisane in the quiet, to process it all. I’m glad you found connection. I do agree that the right connection can make grief much more bearable. I feel your gratitude in experiencing that. I’m sad you have this loss. I’m sad we (collectively) share that aspect of life ❤

  6. That was a beautiful comment – and my grief is not too heavy because I did not her that well – but in June she (Melanie – the lady who passed away Monday night) – was a nurse and she gave us some advice when my mother was here – my mom’s knee was bothering her the day before she left –
Anyhow – your comment was just what I needed because of the way you noted about how we go in and out of doors, etc.
I almost added another door photo to this post (to maybe make it more Thursday Door dense – but I also
Liked the to tint on the door – and that lady (so thx for taking the time to leave a comment)

  7. We just had our flip-flops/sandals exchange and now the girl with slippers shows up…. (I’m behind on my blog reading, as you can see). They do look like something one might wear around the house, you can’t really tell from the photo, so it made me smile.
It’s funny how sometimes a busy, demanding day is just the thing we need to calm down and perceive everything differently.

    1. Yes – I agree about how the busy day can be just what we needed – but august 23rd was extra special for certain little things (like stuff I have been praying about too – which I can share more way later on perhaps) –
      thanks for the reply ana
