Thursday Doors (Sell Out)

I liked the little “Sell Out” sign here.
This armoire, with the palm tree painted on the door, was being tossed as some folks remodeled a house along the beach in Destin, FL last summer. I wondered what happened to the house after Hurricane Michael came through.
This door had sand bags to keep some rising water out.
The light from this angle had a little mystique

 

I also like the light in this photo (and the split pea colored split door). And you know, it amazes me how a huge storm can pass through – and then the sun comes out again like nothing ever happened. Hmmmm. We had rain and wind from “Michael” come through last week, and before that we had some tornadoes from Florence impact this area as well. And both times it was rough and then abruptly it ends and sunshine returns. Oh, and FYI –  was just skimming Gensini’s (2017) research report (came out yesterday) and he found that there is an eastern shift with tornadoes occurrences. More in the midwest and southeast and less in Texas, Oklahoma and Northeast Colorado.

Lastly, right outside my door, I still have some nice October blooms with my Mandevilla (the one that did not bloom for part of the summer) – she is doing very well – and endured the storms just fine – maybe it even made her tougher (are you getting the analogy here…?)

  4. Great post! Yes storms do make us tougher even though at the time going through them we can feel so weak but they bring out true beauty.
    I love the palm tree armoire!!

Hi – such a good point about how going though the storm can really be draining and as humans we can be weak and need to remember it is ok – especially for those that still feel – ya know – and so Somehow without minimizing anyone’s pain or feeling weak – it can help to remember that all things can work “for” good and that joy can be found in spite of storms – hmmm

  8. The armoire looks lovely. I do not know how it was constructed but it may be worth made over again.

    The split door does not look like a door to get in but a booth? I am curious. I like the green color on it which matches well with the color of the posts.

    1. Hi YC — you are right – the armoire could easily be redone – and it is funny that those pieces of furniture are so “out” now
      And side note a that photo was taken in destin fla – the same place that hurricane micheal blasted a few weeks after this photo was taken –
      And you are right the door is more booth like –
      Not sure what it is used for (maybe an information booth) but I took it at 6 in the morning (most things were closed) and I was along the shore (also in destin fl)

  9. We call those split doors a Dutch door. I have one between my daycare room and utility room. It was custom made for me by my late father/in-law. And I hope the tornado prediction is wrong for the Midwest 😬

    1. well thanks for reading! and I hope the prediction is wrong too – but actually the study found that the “shift” is already happening – and there is already a tredn in increase in those areas – I might not have explained it well – but thanks for reading that part. They said “tornado alley” is still the highest – but the shift is happening – and we were shopping in early september and a tornado touched down in the area – we were all escorted to the back of this building and stayed there for half an hour. pretty scary but also an experience to remember

  11. Great doors. I’d probably waste an hour or two in that shop. I like the how the split door is cut in between those two columns. Makes me think it was an afterthought, and makes me curious as to the reason.

  13. LOVE the first photo. That’s quite a composition and would make a good jigsaw puzzle.
    One day a few weeks, I went out of the office for a break, trees, workcat, you know. Anyway, I saw Sam’s car was wet and I thought he must have run through the car wash on his way in. Then I saw Kim’s car was wet and they about do everything together, so… But then I saw Mentor’s car was wet and it hadn’t been before, or had it been and I hadn’t noticed, and of course my car was wet and only then did I realize it had rained. But the ground was completely dry.

  16. I love your doors! I had to look at this one because the only other place I’ve seen Thursday Doors is at https://manjameximovie3.wordpress.com/ and hers are always so great. I love doors! My fave is the first photo with the sandbags. The way it turned out, all modern, symmetrical and spare. Also love the painted armoir door and the split pea split door, and the stack of doors for sale 🙂 Glad to hear the storms didn’t damage too much in your community.
