Eight Street Shots (and Why Can’t We Be Friends song for Music Monday)

Hi Readers – Time to share a few street shots. These are all from the last couple of months. 

Do you see the flower boxes? Well these two guys, and my friend and I, had a quick talk about Georgia O’Keeffe and her pansy paintings. We pulled some images up on our phones and looked at the little ones in the boxes — then chatted a bit. Not too long – but fun connecting. (Richmond, VA – The Fan District 2018)

 

 

Kombucha was on sale. I ran into this man a couple of times inside the store and he asked “what type of drink” I was buying. I told him it was kombucha (and you know I was a bit excited cos I love the booch and what it does for the body). Later, in the parking lot, I saw him again and gave him a bottle. Had to. This lady barely spoke English. We tried to conversate a bit – and both agreed that her flowers were gorgeous. (Richmond, VA – Short Pump 2018)
So… when you walk around with ombre hair and a purse like this – maybe it is a conversation starter? (Richmond, VA – The Fan District 2018)
I was actually taking a picture of some trees – and this lady was in the frame. I put the camera down – and right after that – she turned my way and gave me a big, kind smile. That kind smile is still with me. (Orlando, FL 2019)

 

And considering that it is Music Monday – let’s have a song.  The “Why Can’t we be Friends” seems to fit the theme of the pictures in this post….

  2. Nice quiet moments you’ve caught, Y! I particularly like the last one, how you can barely see she’s holding a drink, but the shadow shows it so clearly… something about finding hidden information if you look from the right angle… 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Ana for pouting out the detail of the drunk and shadow – 💜 I also feel some math in that photo with the way her shadow meets the line of sidewalk and the verticals from The fence.

  3. I liked the guy you gave the Kombucha- something about him. The song that popped into my head as I was reading your post was Buzzy Linhart- hadn’t thought of it since the 70’s.

    1. Thanks so much dan – I agree – cannot put my finger on it.
      I am collecting photos for maybe a series of street shots with people on their phones (maybe) and so that is what was thinking originally – but the pink house – the fence left and he and the tree with soft hands ? That is part of what I see

  7. Good song and that just we need in many situations these days.
    I can understand your impression when someone turned to you and gave you a smile as you mentioned in the last picture. That can last with you for a long long time.

  8. What a pleasing collection of street photos, Yvette, and I’m happy to have that song in my head for a bit. We have a Paper Source here in Naperville, but they don’t have any plant boxes outside (and right now there wouldn’t be any plants in them anyway!!) But in summer a number of businesses put out water bowls for dogs, which is something nice, too.

  11. Nice shots, I really like the Kombucha man too, especially the small shot on the left. A great way to connect to people, I’ve never had the nerve to do that sort of thing.

Hi – not all the time – and not everyone – I think it is a chemistry mood and it depends on my energy level (if that makes sense) there are times when I just want quiet and time to myself – and then times I am neutral but I meet someone who is cool and it unfolds from there. Are you that way too?

  15. I smiled through the whole post imagining you chatting or connecting with all of these people Y. Why can’t we all be friends? You are role modeling what just a smile or a kind word can do. Imagine if every peron in the world did just that once a day with a stranger.

    On another note did you know that on your gravatar your website is not attached. So if someone clicks on your gravatar on a comment you have left they don’t get to your site. Just thought you might want to know.
