What to Wear Wednesday (#2 Disney Edition)

Hello Readers – 

As February winds down – It is time for another “What to Wear” post. 

Today is all about “Disney” items. 

On trips to Florida we usually encounter folks on their way to Disney World.  So most of the photos are from trips.

However, what really inspired this post was a mom and daughter I met last November. They were coming back from seeing “Disney on Ice” and they let me take their picture.

1) Sometimes it is fun to get dressed up to go see Disney on Ice:

The mom shared that this was her first time getting dressed up with her daughter – usually the daughter is the one to wear the dress, shoes, and tiara.

5) Not many Disney items at the Priorhouse, but this would possibly be a nice shirt to wear for counseling (just name your emotion and let’s get to it… ha):

    1. thanks for the feedback – esp. on #12 – his smile is “pure joy” to me…. and those kind folks are just good to be around, eh? They have a secret… and it is called “enjoy your life” – (( even with shitty basketballs – kidding))

  3. Love those videos! After living for over 20 years at Disney World’s door, I learned too much information from friends who worked there. Yes, we went a few times and it was just as described. This was years ago for us. I can’t imagine now. And admission is now over $100 a ticket?? It’s insane. I remember reading where Walt Disney said he would never allow admission to be over $45. With the direction Disney is going , he’s got to be turning in his grave. Now, back in the day, I preferred Universal Studios!

    1. Hi Linda – I bet he would be sad with the prices. But it does cost a lot to keep up such a place – and if they can get it – well I dunno –
      and side note –
      I sometimes regret not working there for a year or two when I lived down there – a lot of my colleagues did it for the experience.

      1. When we were moving to the Orlando area back in the 90s, I was all excited about applying to work for Disney legal dept. I told a church member who was a VP at Disney about what I wanted to do and he emphatically discouraged it. He wouldn’t be specific but left me with the impression that it was not a nice place to work. I later learned, after going to work for a private law firm, that Disney’s legal dept had the reputation of being a “sweat shop.” But, then, that’s on the inside. Not necessarily what is experienced by guests. TMI, sorry.

      Let’s get it out there.
      In 1992 my friend worked with the teenage mutant ninja turtles and it was just like any other hourly entry level
      Job. No magic – but she wanted Disney on her resume and got it.
      In mid 1990 my older sister was on a call back audition for the Superman series coming up – but she got sick that fall and then in January moved back to Canada to get married.
      Anyhow – I don’t know much of what goes on behind the scenes but did like having season passes in 2001

  4. I have no Disney clothes or accessories, but I like the t-shirt with the emotions on it.

    I’ve met many people who are Disney fanatics, but I think of it as harmless fun, taken in small doses.

    We’ve been to Disney in FL, but nowhere else. We’ve enjoyed it each time we went, but it’s so expensive now that I doubt that we’ll get there again.

    1. I agree – small doses and hey – to each their own.
      and did you notice that the emotions shirt – well the “confident” one is a little off – I think the smile should be smoother and more “assured”- but all good.

  5. YIKES … Disney clothes – Hell No!!! I refuse to wear any labeled clothing from any manufacturer. They aren’t paying me and I;m iver paying to have them. No !!!
    I love the leg tattoo. I wonder about the back story.
    Yes, have been to Disney World when I lived in NY and now since moving to Florida 27 years ago. I’m 3 hours away so it isn’t a place I visit. I think once is enough anyway since their prices take a whole years salary from parents who want to show their kids a magical place for a few days. It’s a shame it’s so expensive. The food is right up there too. Like how can you not eat or drink all day. Fun Photographs, though …

    1. you are so right about the food being so expensive too. We have not been since the early 2000s and costs were creeping up there back then.
      and also you are right about advertising for companies – when we parade in the heavily logo’d clothes. I don’t mind a small tag, but sometimes it is too much (but sometimes labels are everything to someone and the lady and son in #11 – well we met because I said, “you guys like Nike, eh?”
      haha – I actually said that – but they were super cool people and chemistry was there –
      but I prefer my clothes (and purses) without the big label –

      1. Hubby and I went there with our #2 daughter, boyfriend and 3 grandkids in 2002. We were overwhelmed when we got home. They stayed in a hotel outside of Disney. We were camping in Disney. The food, sodas, souvenirs and specialtiy dinner with the characters took almost all of our savings. I was shaking over it. I never took family again because of the exprectations of grandparents paying for everything and I was exhausted running from one event to another. A few years, later in 2007, we went back by ourselves to play. OH YEAH … we played at ‘How much money could have extracted from our pockets in one day’. LOL I don’t think I’ll ever go back. It’s no fun when you feel so broke afterwards.
        YUP … there are people who run around with name brand labels showing like they’re all that. My feeling is you should be all that even if it doesn’t have a label. It’s psycological blackmail from the manufacturers. I won’t even wear team t shirts. They get paid a lot of money for playing. Plus, I had a t shirt once that said a certain team and someone started to agure with me because of it. : O
        Can you tell this is a pet peeve of mine. 😄
        YIKES … I could go on. 😍

      Quick north face jacket story
      This grandma I know once had me laughing when she asked her granddaughter why she needed the north face white fleece jacket that was 200$ – when the other brand was 80$ (she asked if she could just see north face on the 80$ one) but then she said – “so she wants a 200 dollar jacket that is made for hiking in arctic cold – just so she can have the name brand – all to wait five minutes at the bus stop.
      —
      And I forgot about the meals with the characters – and all the other extras offered – and whew – let’s it even get started on expectations ….
      Sometimes this is why I do not like “giving” gifts around the holidays / people expect so much at Christmas –
      but give the same gift in July or March and expectations are lowered and somappreciatij usually goes up.

      1. LOLOL she could call it her expensive bus stop jacket. Yes, that is one funny example. I like to call my gift giving – ‘Just Because’ I give gifts when I see something that reminds me of the person or is an item they like rather than have specifics like Christmas. My only exception is birthdays. I think that day belongs to that person alone. : )

  6. Fun post! Love the creativity! No Disney clothes, but did live in some Mickey Mouse ears for a few months when I was kid. I wasn’t really a huge fan – aside from generally enjoying Disney movies – but my aunt gave them to me and I thought they were cool. I like the tattoo pic. I like the passion. Thanks for the fun!

      and you mentioned the movies – and they are a huge part of the disney experience – maybe more than even visiting the park.

  9. Disney was such a big part of my life growing up, and I think that’s the same for many of us too. And we aren’t afraid to show it 😊 Love the shot of the plane and the wedding…I guess we all like living childhood or try to make our lives as fun yet expressive and can be 😊

      Anyhow – you are right – “wearing” Disney stuff is expressive and usually upbeat and fun.

      1. Disney was actually a much bigger part of my life than Zelda…the classic Disney dominated my childhood and I had so much fun rewatching The Lion King and The Little Mermaid as a kid. I also have a few pieces of Disney clothing in my closet today. Never goes out of fashion 🙂

    2. You are so right – Disney items can be timeless – and speaking of time – sometimes I can tell
      Someone’s age by the Disney movies they watched in childhood / like my niece was growing up early 1990s so she is a beauty and the beast girl (on vhs in 92) – my nephew we took to see lion king in 1994 – and then we have friends with a five year old and she is all into Frozen.

  10. I grew up in California and Disneyland was our once a year splurge. I have great memories there so, yeah, I love Disney.

  11. I love #12. And yes I have Disney stuff (tee shirts, coffee mugs). I was a young child when the original Mickey Mouse club was on and also watched the Wonderful World of Walt Disney. My first trip to Orlando Disney was in 1998 and I was in awe of the Cinderella castle.

      I forgot about the Disney coffee mugs and how they were likely a top item to get – and the classic tee and hoodie – 😉 in fact, I know so many folks with Disney coffee mugs from different eras

  13. The 2 videos had me laughing out loud!

    I’m one of those crazy people who thought it would be a good idea to run the ‘Goofy’ a number of years ago. You know – the race that has a Half Marathon on one day followed by a Full Marathon the next. It’s a long story and not worth telling 😉

    One thing was clear – Disney did not impress me at all and I failed to see the attraction. I was however grateful it was off-season. I would not have been a happy camper fighting heat and crowds.

    I do however have a bottle opener in the shape of Mickey Mouse ears 😁

      and whoa – the Goofy marathon sounds tough and maybe one day a blog post will unfold.
      And very cool that you have a bottle opener with the ears (doe sit work good?) we have one that has DW on it for the drums – and we love it.
      oh and when we had passes to Disney in 2001 – a huge perk was being able to go in the off season and even late in the day for a few hours.

  15. I am actually not a fan of Disney, should I say that quietly? But I did enjoy the comic video. It is just as I thought it would be…. exhausting yet all parents do it for their children.

    1. Hi – you do not have to say that quietly – and I met some folks down in Florida who were really loud about all things Disney – some people despise the place.

        1. Some think it is over commercialized.
          One guy in particular. He and his girlfriend were on a shuttle to the airport with me. He said you could not get him to even think about going to Disney. I told him a bout a few date nights we had at Epcot (back in the day…) and he listened – but he was annoyed through and through. They were from Detroit and his girlfriend’s sister was playing in and advanced level (D1) sports tournament (which Orlando is famous for hosting – )

  17. I love wearing Disney and Marvel merch. I get so many positive comments from people. Used to be different, that’s for sure 😅

      1. I was born in the 80s and grew up in the 90s with the amazing spiderman and xmen cartoons. And back then it wasn’t “cool” to be a marvel fan, because only nerds read comic books, Disney wasn’t hot between teenagers either. Sure you could enjoy the movies, but the way we are “allowed” these days is so different. Now the people who would bully me in the 90s are asking me where I got my iron man cap, really listening to my marvel/star wars theories and asking me about what infinity war means for the MCU. While the 90s where great for geeks like me, the 2010’s are heaven!
        And you just inspired me to write this in an analyzing blog Haha 😁
