DIFFERENT: Lens-Artist #40 (Lady by the River 2 of 10)

The theme for the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge is DIFFERENT.

For my take I started with this shot.

Different wood – different nails

The different lines and shapes caught my eye – and those sneakers… 🙂
At the Sean McConnell concert (post is here) – I grabbed this different angle photo.
I do not normally take photos of pottery – but this old vase at the museum caught my eye.
Speaking of pottery – saw this ceramic art piece and loved the two words. Connecting it to today’s post – When things are different from what you had planned – maybe there are times we need to “make do”  – make it work – get it done – STOP complainin’, get to gettin’…. – MAKE DO!

__

This photo was in old coffee-table photography book we recently gave away —  sure is a different capture of a deer.  Fantastic.
An old timer from the 70’s/80’s dark room –  things are sure different for photography in the digital age.

Now how is this for a different photo for the Priorhouse blog –  a stuffed animal! – This rhino reminded me of Tish Farrell – the Writer on the Edge.  Tina Schell’s 2015 “Catching the Catchlights” post (here) talked about how catchlights are the “gleam of reflected light in the eye of a person or animal in a photograph.” After I saw the catchlights in the rhino’s eye – I thought of Tina’s post, then I thought of Tish because she posts about Rhinos (like here). So as a joke – or to be different – I added Tish to the eye – maybe part of the catchlights. haha

I was chit chatting with blogger Joanne Sisco (here) and I shared a link with her for the “Free Hugs” video (it connected because I shared a “hug story” with her). The music for the video is from Sick Puppies

This video is old – and we lived in Virginia when it came out, but a couple of our Denver friends made it into the video. Like the lady at the 56 second spot, is Jane and she was a youth leader at our church.

The song, All the Same, is not necessarily about embracing cultural diversity, but some of the lyrics remind me of that. Some of the lyrics remind us that we are more similar than not. And I know there are times we need similar – there are times when connecting with like-minded or “not so diverse” groups can be comforting and refreshing – however, if we only stay with sameness – we lose freshness – and we lose essence that can often come with “different”

Here are some of the “All the Same” lyrics that remind of embracing diversity:

It’s all the same
And
I’ll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
Do it all over again
It’s always the same
Wrong or right
Black or white
If I close my eyes
It’s all the same
In my life
The compromise
I close my eyes
It’s all the same

  1. Well done Yvette – you’ve really explored the theme! I especially liked your catchlight with Tish in the eye; so clever. And how sweet of you to remember my post. Appreciate your joining us this week as always.

  2. I’m not sure why I couldn’t get the sound to work on the video so thanks for including some of the lyrics.

I too thought it was pretty clever to insert Tish’s photo into the eye of the rhino.

The ceramic with ‘make do’ on it certainly applies to me this morning. I have a problem with sleeping arrangements for my 2 brothers who will be staying at our house for the next several days. I thought I had 3 more days to work it out but just learned they are arriving tomorrow instead! Now I’m in ‘make do’ mode 😏

    1. Oh that “make do” example was really good.
And how fun to have visitors – enjoy them
Oh and if you do get to hear the song – it is really cool how it builds and builds momentum – it was a top song for us back in the day – when we played music on “I-pods”

  3. Great video! Wow free hugs. I hope we always have the right to give out free hugs and that there be people willing to give them and people willing to receive them. We all need hugs or we should say we sure do!!!!!

    1. I agree – and it is sad that we might not always have the right to maybe give free hugs.
I recently heard someone talking about earthing (well that topic has come up a lot and it is where humans get good ions and a nice charge from the earth when we come into contact with the ground and nature) – and they also said there is an ionic or chemistry exchange that happens person to person.
      Touching is important for health….
