Glass Doors from Water Park and RVA

Hello Readers – next month, June 2019, I am going to try and use up photos from Prirohouse archives. Still thinking about the best way to do that  – but archive sharing also starts today.

First – this glass door with elaborate handles – from Winter Park, Florida 

November 2018 – Winter Park, FL (Right near Trader Joe’s)

Closer shot:

I connected with one of my former students (Tasch) and we sat in the courtyard across from these doors. We talked – ate some food from Trader Joe’s – sipped kombucha – and yapped for a long while. We are both ENFP’s and so the convo is that kind of good.

Another glass door with elaborate handles – from Short Pump, Virginia

July 2016 – Short Pump, Virginia

This glass door has a simple, streamlined handle from Richmond, VA. 

February 2019 – VMFA in Richmond, VA I like how glass doors let the outside in – and the people in this shot add a mood to a courtyard I know very well.  

Now to dig into the archives a little more –

Two More shots: 

1) A house with only a bit of the door showing. When I used to drive by this house, it always reminded me of the Wilson character from Home Improvement.

November 2017 – Richmond, VA
Wilson is a fictional character from the sitcom Home Improvement (1991-1999). His face is never shown and the writers use this character for humor and also to bring learning into the show. Dr. Wilson is always sharing advice to all members of the Taylor family, “often reciting words of wisdom, famous quotes, or historical examples.” Wilson is barely seen as he peeks over the backyard fence. The character Wilson was inspired by a neighbor that Tim Allen had when he was very little; he was too short to see over his neighbor’s fence, and therefore unable to see his neighbor. In the comedy show, Wilson is a type of unseen character with lots of wisdom. (Side note – I once heard that Tim Allen grew up in the same Denver, CO neighborhood as my FIL). 

2) No ornate handles, no glass – but this storage trailer sure gave a nice reflection.

  4. The handles on the first door are quite something, Yvette, although the second set has plenty of appeal as well. Maybe it’s the difference between a woman dressed elaborately and one dressed in a simple but chic dress. Both can be beautiful even though quite different. I also like the reflections at the end.

    1. Thanks Jean – we made one batch of kombucha recently and it sorta came out – please let me know if you have any tips (or if you already blogged about it)

      1. It needs a good amount of sugar and we use tepid black tea but I’m going to try white tea some time for a change. You tube has some good videos for tips and ideas. The main thing is to catch it before it turns vinegary. Putting it in the fridge slows it down.

    2. thanks for the tips – and might try again later this year.
      My yoga teacher, Yaco, also had a tip this week and she said that it takes longer in cool weather and will be quicker in the summer.
      Nad I hope your white tea comes out (sounds so good) – and taco said she used Yerba mate for some of hers – hmmm

    Clearing out the archive? I shudder at the thought of doing that. Good luck. I’m looking forward to seeing the treasures.

    1. Hi Dan – thanks for the comment on the doors.
      and so far so good with cleaning out folders. Some pics I am just deleting – and whoa – that is a big deal for me.

      Oh and I did find a photo to show you (just linked ya) – it has a Corona bottle and reminded me of your SOCs posts and the recent “losing blue” power of beer post.

  12. I totally get how you’d think of Tool Time, with that fence. I watched the show, mostly because of Wilson – he was usually behind the fence, but on occasion, the setting was different – and something always cleverly concealed his face.

    1. Hi Maggie – thanks so much for finding the connection with that door – and hey – just realized you have the same name as Dr. Wilson – ha
      well the writers of the show were brilliant to use that character in that way – and I saw an interview with the guy who played that character and he did talk about how his fame was not connected to his face – and he was okay with it.

  14. That intricate handle up top is beautiful. I think I liked it the best of all of them. I have to get some doors together to put in a post to Norm’s Doors. I did one last Summer and that was it. I remember “Home Improvement” and watched it all the time and after moving from Denver, Colorado, Tim Allen moved to Birmingham, a suburb in Michigan. He used to wear “Michigan swag” on the show and talked about Detroit all the time.
