Hello readers – It is #twosday and my last Two for Tuesday post was in May. 

So lets two this.

My birdbath does not really have visitors (that I know of – still waiting for them to discover it) – And so these next images brought a smile (linked to Trent’s weekly smile here)

This is connected to PULL UP A SEAT (week 30 here)- (I was stopped at a red light so this photo was NOT taken while driving – k). I also chose this shot because we are winding down Life of B’s month of blues – and that is some bright blue jacket – eh?
This photo was right before the men in the previous photo. A blue Tundra and an old black truck (and two uncovered windows to the right). Do you see the truck to the right? I drive by this truck a handful of times during the year. Sometimes there are hot water tanks, fridges, old stoves, and pieces of scrap metal back there. In this shot it is not that full – but every time I See the items in that truck it always makes me stop and feel grateful for what I have. I imagine this hard-working person, who found his niche in recycling, and it humbles me. Also…. I see the scrappy, discarded stuff, that was once new and shiny, and I feel a release from possessions. “Stuff” sure comes and goes. I remember when John Ortberg said that when the game is over, “It all goes back in the box. You don’t get to keep one token, one chip, one game card. In the end, the spoils of the game add up to nothing.” And at Gallivance blog this month (here), they have been chatting about simplifying to get more out of life; we shared the quote about how “there are no U-Haul’s in a graveyard.” It’s always a good idea to assess and see if we are gripping possessions with a tight fist? are we holding “stuff” loosely? So yeah, I like driving by that truck. Good for my outlook.

  2. I would like my income to be a half size bigger them I wouldn’t stumble. Thank for the mention Yvette 🙂 I have embarked on a program not to buy anything that can’t be repaired. I have almost finished my shed where I am repairing things made of wood. I can do wooden stuff (I love how you used “stuff’ as it is one of my favourite words………it describes everything!!!) and have many projects to do as my bestie has things to be repaired and I have other stuff to do as well. Kudos to the bloke collecting other people metal cast offs. Was quite lucrative here until China didn’t want our stuff any more.
    Yes I am OK with going home too lol

      i did not realize that about China – i heard that has happened with other recycled goods
      – a door was shut and new plans need to be made.

      canada and hi i it was made in 80s
      and it stood out to me because with all this digital art (wihich is great of
      course)
      when i saw the needlepoint i realized it might be an endangered art!!

  9. The problem with shoes vs income is that typically people realize their shoes are too big but everyone thinks their income is far too small, even if it is 1000 times the size they really need…. I guess it gets to the question of how much stuff we need to accumulate in our lives.

    1. well said Trent- and if someone visits other countries they will
      realize how rich they are even if they feel “low income” here in the States
      – also – too often people try and meet “needs” with stuff when that always leaves them empty – because as humans what really fills cannot be bought – and not that we don’t need money and stuff – but “relative deprivation” means that perspective keeps shifting and someone might go from wanting a mere garage – then they “need” a three car garage – then seven – and then – well Jamie has a beach house and we need…
      i like how you said 1,000 times the size they really need – powerful and true

  10. I love the quote about birds, as long as I am one left singing in the trees. And I love your bird photographs. Rainbow lorikeets (the first photo) are common around here. So gorgeous. The Pride and Prejudice book house is rather quaint. And what about the sign telling to go outside and look at your phone – not! It’s a beauty. 🙂

      and it could be a catalyst for posting
      that is why i join challenges – helps
      with ideas and motivation (and i am trying to do a weekly fiction
      piece regularly but it is hard to find the time)

      oh and what i like about some
      twosday posts – is that they give me the chance to combine
      challenges and be a little hodge podge kinda post….

  16. You bring back the double feature that movie theaters long ago did away with, and thank you for it.

    That truck is the perfect inspiration for un-stuffing things and getting on the minimalist train, tell you what. I love quotes about “stuff” and you have some keepers.

    As for the “Go Big” sign . . I completely relate! LOL!

    1. thanks for the comment – and i did not know movie theatres
      did the double up
      but i started my two for tuesday’s (and triple shot friday’s at one point) because of the rock stations that did that in the 80s.
      but there are a lot of bloggers doing twos on Tues – i sometimes follow us tag – and a blogger john has bee doing two jazz songs on tuesdays for a long time.

      1. They used to. I remember when I was a much younger lad going to the Drake Theatre on Woodhaven Blvd (NY) for a double feature on Saturdays. I could buy two tickets, a big popcorn and still have enough for the bus ride home AND a couple pizza slices on the other side. 🙂

        I dig the Two-Fer theme.

        1. truly a great memory – and the pizza you got was likely that ultimate NY pizza (or should i say PIE)
          a memory i have from 80s is the milk machine – for fifty cents (two quarters that i kept in my tune sick while riding my bike) i would get a quart of milk from the vending machine found in various parts of town- weird to think of it now – but i can still hear the sound of the machine as the quart cane down- i would chug and chug it! full fat milk (not the nasty void of nutrition skim and 1% milk that they claim is better with those fat free lies

        2. It sure was. The greasy roll up your sleeves and keep a napkin ready kind of pie slice.

          I remember the milk machines too! Funny how a memory can trigger a sense like that, but I completely understand. I still feel my toes buried deep into my orange shag rug when I hear “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Croft.

          I bought non-fat milk by mistake a week ago. UGH! There is NOTHING I can do with the stuff! I mix it with whole milk . . still taste it. In my coffee? Still taste it. So I just put it in my cereal and suck it up.

          “um, no – dude – i don’t really eat pie and also –
          would not want to go out and sit in a diner for it”

          when the roommate came home with pizza pie – he other roommate laughed
          it was a case of semantics and culture!

      what they were looking at –
      according to the side mirror –
      not much is down that way- ha
      and that overly competitive spirit does get old…. and can be downright ugly at times –

  23. I enjoyed your post…the quotes are great, and also your signs. You’ve included one of my favorite subjects…birds. I love birds more each year and spend more time watching them and finding ways to interact a bit, even if it’s just putting out seed. This year I’ve been enjoying the goldfinches, once again, ripping the zinnias to pieces for the seeds. I also love Pride and Prejudice…great crafty house!

      and i know you love your birds and flowers and weather vanes – and – wait for it – that coffee served black! ha ☕️
      and i did not realize finches devoured zinnia seeds
      – also – reminds me that i have no zinnia this year- wonder if it is too late to have some ?
      my vinca are at the point of tall full blooms and i love when they do that – the almost crowd out everything – but vinca are a fav i later summer ( and the rose of Sharon and mande villa )

      1. My Rose of Sharon has buds…I have vinca too…it’s doing well in the heat. I don’t have a mandevilla this year, but I have in the past. I love them. They usually do well…don’t know why I didn’t get one this year. Smaller zinnias might still bloom…not sure about the larger varieties. Worth a try, since mine usually sprout in days.

And when they use those little earplugs I end up thinking they are talking to me and I answer only to be told to shush as they are on the phone. Thanks for the follow.   27. There were so many enjoyable tidbits here Yvette, I don’t know where to start. The quotes and the memes made me smile and I need to smile as it’s been a trying few weeks with the weather, items breaking around this house and being busy at work. I am trying to at least put a dent in Reader tonight after a 7-mile walk this morning and taking 369 pictures – I will be sorting pictures until the cows come home. I love the sign about looking at your phone … at the park where I walk, a young couple often walks there … they walk, side by side, heads bent and looking at their phone. Might as well just stay home and do that – just sayin’.

      1. I did 8 miles yesterday Yvvette- it was a beautiful sunny, and just warmish, not a hot or humidity-filled day. I went to two parks and then meandered at the Henry and Clara Ford estate – the grounds are 1,300 acres.
        Beautifiul wildflowers and annuals planted in the many gardens – took tons of pictures, but won’t even look at them as I have a lot of yardwork, housework to catch up on.
        I’ve tried to indulge myself on weekends as my work schedule has been so brutal … my boss wanted me to work the last few weekends and I opted to work late every night and that cut into my evening instead. That’s caused me to be behind in posting and staying caught up in Reader. I hope the siege is soon over and I can relax more. Now I’m off to my regular park to walk while it is still cool – we have some rainy/stormy days coming up over the next three days.
