JULY 2019 – A DOZEN STREET SHOTS – RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (AND EMPATHY VIDEO)

.

Hello Readers. One word Sunday is “profile” this week (HERE) and I had a few street shots planned to share (the first three)

BUT THEN…

This seemed like the perfect time to share a dozen STREET PHOTOS FROM JULY 2019.

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #1: “LADY IN GREEN DRESS”

PROFILE… check! AND NOTICE THE RED COLOR MOVING UP THROUGH THE PHOTO FROM THE FLIP FLOPS TO THE WORD “PASTRIES” TO THE EMBLEM ON THE DOOR? THE LOGO ON THE DOOR ALSO HAS A REVERSED PROFILE – A FEW OTHER LTITLE GOODIES ARE HERE TOO – LIKE THE FOOT UP ADDS LEG ANGLE TO SYNC WITH AN ANGLE REFLECTION IN THE DOOR AND THE WONDOW CORNER.  THE RECTANGLES HAVE BALANCE AND SOME TASTY LITTLE SHADOWS WORK WITH OTHER REFLECTIONS. THE MAILBOX (LEFT) BRINGS A HORIZONTAL THAT SYNCS WITH THE HORIZONTALS OF THE WINDOW BASE AND STEP. ((AND ALL I DID WAS CLICK – HA)) oh and in a way – do you see the layers from the roof lines – receding in the window reflection – in a way they are flipped/reversed as the window outline comes at us – oh maybe I am seeing too much now –

THIS NEXT PHOTO IS MY FAVORITE PEOPLE PORTRAIT FROM JULY

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #2: “ASHLEY WITH HER MOMMA”

I TOOK THE PHOTO OF THE LITTLE GIRL (CAN YOU GUESS HER NAME? – IT IS ASHLEY – OR MAYBE ASHLY, WITHOUT THE E) – BUT WHEN I GOT HOME – I REALIZED THE YOUNG MOMMA WAS A STAR HERE TOO. THE MOTHER’S NATURAL BEAUTY – EYES, NAILS, HOLDING THE PINK TEETHER – AND THE MAGICAL ENERGY SHARED IN THAT HOLDING – THE CONNECTION BETWEEN MOMMA AND BABY — ALL THESE DETAILS UNFOLDED LATER. I TOOK THE PHOTO BECAUSE I WAS JUST STANDING IN LINE – MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS – AND ASHLEY LOOKED AT ME, ALL SERIOUS, AND THEN LIT UP A SMILE. THIS LITTLE GIRL HAS JOY – AND I WAS REMINDED OF HOW CONTAGIOUS A SMILE CAN BE.

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #3: “MAN IN BLUE SHIRT”

Doesn’t this fit so well for PULL UP A SEAT? (HERE)

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #4: “MEN AT WORK”

THIS WAS AT A RED LIGHT. I HAVE SEEN THESE SAME TWO GUYS A FEW TIMES – BUT ON THIS DAY THEY WERE RIGHT NEXT TIME. THEY SMILED FOR THE CAMERA (COOL. DUDES. YEAH)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #5: “SMILING ON BROAD STREET”

THIS ALSO FITS THE PROFILE THEME. AND CONNECTS TO TRENT’S WEEKLY SMILE (HERE) BECAUSE YOU KNOW I THINK OF HIM WHEN I SEE TRENT SIGNS. AND I LOVE THE CONTRAST HERE OF THE CLASSY LADY WITH BAG, HAT AND COAT – AND THEN FATHER IN “DAD MODE” – REMINDS ME OF LIFE’S SEASONS

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #6: “LADY WITH BIG OL’ BAG OF MCDONALD’S”

I KNOW EVERYONE IS MIXED ON HOW BEST TO HELP FOLKS IN THIS SITUATION. I GO BY HOW I FEEL AT THE TIME – AND I DID GIVE THIS LADY SOMETHING – AND I TOOK THE PHOTO AFTER I SAW THAT HUGE BAG OF MCDONALD’S – WONDERED WHAT WAS INSIDE…

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #7 “GIRL NEAR BLUE ROOF” & #8 – “GUYS IN JEANS”

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #9: AMIGO WITH NEW PUP

MAYBE I SHOULD MAKE THE TITLE “AMIGO WITH LITTLE PRINCESS”

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #10: TRIO WITH BAGS

THE NASA SHIRT ON THE LADY TO THE LEFT REMINDS ME OF HOW THOSE NASA SHIRTS ARE “IN” RIGHT NOW

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #11: FUN HAIR AND COOL SHADOW LINES

#11 – SHADOWS AND NICE HAIR – AND WAIT – ARE THOSE CROCS? WOW – THOSE ARE STILL GOING STRONG 🙂

JULY 2019 STREET SHOT #12:

#12 A – I LIKE THE STREET AND THE WAY THE BUILDINGS FRAME THE PHOTO HERE
#12 B- FROM THIS ANGLE WE HAVE MORE OF A VERTICAL BALANCE GOING ON – LESS FOREGROUND AND THE DARKNESS OF THE GIRL’S CLOTHES SYNC WITH THE DARKNESS OF THE IRON ON THE BUILDING TO HER UPPER RIGHT. THERE IS MORE HERE THAT I AM STIL CHEWING ON – COULD NOT DECIDE IF I LIKED THE OTHER ONE MORE – SO ADDED BOTH – WHAT DO YOU THINK?

DO YOU have any FAVORITE  street shots from this post?

WANTED TO CLOSE WITH A VIDEO ABOUT EMPATHY AND DRUGS CAN IMPAIR HELPING BEHAVIORS ( I WAS VISITING AT XINGFU MAMA’S BLOG AND MENTIONED THIS VIDEO).

ESPECIALLY LOVED PEGGY MASON’S CLOSING COMMENT:

“So there’s another message for society – go out and help somebody. Don’t take a drug. Go out and help someone – it will make you feel good.” ~ Dr. Mason

  1. Wow Yvette. So much to get my thoughts out. If you do keep looking at photo one yes you will see more and more. I stopped. The two of the woman in the laneway. I like both for differing reasons. Yes the frame of the first and the focus on her more in the second. Medication and peoples reactions is so true. Exercise is best rather than medication. Great post 🙂

    1. Thanks for the comment and taking the time to explore – I almost left out number 12 because it is
mono and was maybe going to post it separate – but I am
So glad I went for the “dozen” and added it… because it seems to be a fav today
And with number 1 – I have another version of it and guess what – it has a selfie too!
I blurted it out and well – now that I think about it – the rectangle phone in my hand at he tome added to the shapes and the receding –
Whew – either way your comment aligns with how I feel about the photo – I had to stop looking – I really just clicked a photo and had no idea these elements would unfold – truly a bit of fun 🙃

  2. Another Trent sign, with some odd guy on the roof behind… though the people in front were good. I liked the mother and child smiles.(Ashl(e)y). Some other good shots. I’m terrible with street photography….

    1. Hi Trent – I love when I see those signs for the “Trent construction” company – how can I not think of you and the weekly smile – I first took a photo without any people – then the dad with stroller showed up – and my classy lady with tan accessories
      😉
that guy on the roof does have an odd vibe —

And not sure if you want to hone your street photography –
but if you do – remember that it takes time to find your groove with it –
So maybe make a goal to work on this kind of photography at least once a month
/ or not – but it is a lot like your other art / just get doing it

  3. Another collection of interesting photos, Yvette. You’ve captured some wonderful profiles and situations.
I was particularly interested in the findings explained in the interview about rats and anti-anxiety medication. Oh, the damage we do. Thanks for sharing.

  4. The red sandal woman, because when a color in a photograph asserts its dominance, things get interesting. And I don’t know why, but I immediately went to Orion. I checked it out and the angles do kind of work in concert with her. Sandals to font to logo on the door.

    1. I am going to check out the Orion shape – thanks for that comment
And it reminded me of a time when Mr. Monk (early Halloween episode) saw a constellation in a pigeons spots – it was how he knew it as the same pigeon –
So your Orion idea has me curious now

  5. Thank you for sharing the video. I like this kind of study. It is another evident that empathy does not belong to human. Other animals do have it too.

Very nice street shots in this post. Different emotions from various folks. I do like “men at work” a lot.

    1. Thanks YC
And you are right about pointing out the empathy animals have- I was more focusing on the way the meds can impact helping behavior – even acts we find rewarding – ugh
But out was also a great point to remember animals have empathy and enjoy helping
And cheers to the “men at work” and I hope to see them once more before they leave
