Johns Hopkins Hospital

Did you ever call this hospital “John Hopkins” without the “S” – many of us have…. ever wonder why it is not John sans “s” – here is why: 

The philanthropist Johns Hopkins is the hospital and university’s benefactor – and his first name was the surname of his great-grandmother, Margaret Johns, who married Gerard Hopkins. They named their son Johns Hopkins, who had a son named Samuel Hopkins, and then Samuel named one of his sons for his father, which was “Johns Hopkins”

  6. I love the doors on the corners of the buildings. I’ve seen them in older parts of town around here and think they’re cool.

    [My father graduated from Johns Hopkins. Woe be it to any child of his who mispronounced his alma mater. 🙄]

  8. Great photos, Yvette! They brought back a lot memories of visits to Baltimore. I always enjoyed the inner harbour. Years ago, my father’s eyesite was saved by a doctor at The John Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.

I actually knew that from when you mentioned it before (but it was a while ago -) and it shows that some of the allopathic care we have is effective – but I am mixed at many ways our “medical system” goes about certain health ailments. The American health system is NOT the best in the world – not at all – and we can learn from foreigners and we need to stop the greed and overpriced symptom management – but I digress

      1. I was glad to get past Sunday which was stormy off and on and a torrential rain – just when I thought it could not rain any more, it would rain even harder. A few more stormy days/evenings then nice cool and sunny almost Fall-like days. I’m sooooo ready!

    You’ve outdone yourself with this gallery. And I’m not just saying that because you gifted me that shot . . . but I LOVE it. Baseball in Baltimore has such a rich history, in spite of the forgettable present. I love Camden Yards, and yes . . even though I’m a Yankees fan, I cannot wait for the day when the Orioles take it back from us. Right now, it’s the Bombers home away from home, but nah . . I want Baltimore baseball back. I want the days when the Yankees hated going into the old Memorial Stadium because it was going to be a gauntlet of a series. THAT was baseball.

    Did I mention I love your gift? 🙂
