FOR Day 4 of 31 for the countdown to 2020 – I have some dresses to share for What to Wear Wednesday (#wtww).

This dress shop had only ONE dress with sleeves. This was it. Not really liking it…

IT REMINDS ME OF A BOOK I JUST PULLED OUT TO READ THIS MONTH. 

MY SON GAVE ME THIS BOOK LAST YEAR FOR CHRISTMAS AND I AM JUST GETTING TO CHECKING IT OUT. I WILL SKIM IT FIRST AND IF IT DOES NOT INTEREST ME – I SHALL MOVE ON. LET YA KNOW HOW IT GOES. 🙂

  4. Goodness, those dresses, Yvette! I no longer live the kind of life where one of those would even vaguely ‘fit’, but I’m liking that top hat. With all the craziness that’s going on just now, I could easily go in for being Mrs Mad Hatter.

That is funny about the mad hatter – and the vintage stores were closed when we walked the shops (so pretty at night) but I wondered how old that hat was and if it had traces of the madness inducing mercury (that would make a good fiction story snippet – “Janet didn’t realize her illness was connected to the vintage hat she bought one night – mercury slowly …”

    1. Hi – I never really “needed” super dressy (maybe for weddings or a New Year’s dinner) but I do like looking – and I have a part 2 on dresses coming – this folder has bee annoying me a little – started it last winter and want it gone – fun but want t be done with this topic – ha

  9. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not caring for those dresses. It’s like they’re basically all the same with just some minor tweaks. And I prefer sleeves but not the one pictured! Okay, maybe it’s just me! LOL! Cute li’l squirrel!

    1. Hi linda – I rather agree – a few of the dresses look better in person – I had some time to pass before an appointment and the top photos were from one shop. I have one more #wtww post coming with dresses – they are a little different / so I am curious to hear what you think – I’ll link you when I hit publish

  10. I’m with Tish–going for the hat, although I probably have plenty hats already. I can’t use any dresses that dressy, so I’ll have to pass. 🙂

    1. thanks Janet – it seems like the hat and the squirrel were the big hits for this post. I have one more what to wear post coming tomorrow – with some men’s clothes and some mannequins – anyhow – hope you have a great rest ion your night

  11. I enjoyed all the past clothing posts Yvette. I also enjoyed today’s (including the sweet squirrel shot) and I thought of the song “Lady in Red” and will mention that. I may have read the original book many years ago and have seen the old B&W movie years ago. I know Joni, whom I mentioned the Woodstock post the other day, likes Dickens and mentioned she will be doing a Dickens post this year. Somebody’s been doing some serious dress shopping… 🙂 I’m heading to part 2 now, but I must say, i did enjoy those vintage Christmas displays and the hat (that seems to be a winner with everyone). I’m not sure about the dresses, glad I don’t have to pick one 😀 I did see a couple of maybe’s, but there are some small details that are too much for me.

    1. Hi – I only saw two that I liked – and the dress I ended up going with was a plain dark gray (super great price, which matters to me all the time). I liked it okay – and will have to show you a photo later. However, it was too long and I already sent it to a thrift store where they have a lot of gowns and dresses –

    2. here is what I wore for our dinner night – it was a nice charcoal dress with a great length and swoosh bottom. I know some folks do not like getting dressed up – but I like to every now and then
      but glad it is not required for my lifestyle – hahah

      1. Oh you look great, the dress fits you perfectly!
        I’m with you when it comes to dressing up. I think once in a while, on special occasions, it can be a treat… for ourselves and for those who share that moment. For me, that can be a feel good moment, even if it’s just a romantic dinner at home – not really a gown moment, but still, it’s worth wearing something nicer than jeans and a shirt. Same goes for small family celebrations. But that’s just me, I know not everybody sees things the same way.

    3. thanks so much for saying that – the photo was pulled from a little video snippet my hubs grabbed of me because I wanted to see how the length looked as I walked – glad I did because that was the most charming part of that charcoal dress – but it did not feel well – if that makes sense –
      and I think it is awesome to dress up – but not in the snobby and elite kind of gala way –
      but exactly as you say:

      1. The video was a nice touch 🙂 The length made a great difference, I believe – simple yet somehow opulent (in a good way). Walking was probably not easy, I imagine.
        Yes, the not feeling well part makes lots of sense. With some outfits you just keep going back to the mirror because something feels wrong or out of place, only to once again realize it’s all fine. Not sure if that’s what you meant, but this did happen to me on various occasions 😀 .

  17. I love the sheer & gold bodice with the white taffeta, next to the white suit. That’s the only one I think would work for me. However, Moo loves the vintage blue with the sharp v neck, very retro.

  19. I rarely (never) wear dresses any more, Yvette, but I do remember many and the occasion(s) on which I wore them. None were as elegant as these, except perhaps my graduation dress and one I wore as matron of honour at a friend’s wedding. I’ll be interested to know what you think of the book about Dickens. 🙂

  22. I love that quote by Ana Linden. She is right, dresses and the clothes we wear tell a story and have the power to bring us back to where we were when we wore it. My favorite dress is actually one of the 2 only dresses that I own right now. I got it as ross back in 2010 for a swim team banquet the year I first started coaching. And this dress has been my go-to for the past decade. It is still the dress I reach for and that is why I brought it with me here. It has seen me through happy and sad memories, skinnier and fluffier days 🙂
    You sure find some fun displays. The gowns are very elegant and remind me of when I used to have to dress up for voice, violin, or piano recitals. I really enjoyed seeing the vintage displays too.

    1. Hi – thanks for the thoughtful comment – and Alana – I have to see the dress that is your go to one.
      I have one from 2005 that is casual – but has come in handy for luncheons and feel good having it in my closet as a back up if ever needed.
      and the displays I found were partly waiting for cell phone screen repair. Sadly, I cracked my screen twice this year and once was up North when I had to get it fixed – so grabbed some shots while waiting –
