LINES & HOPE POST(2020 Countdown 6 of 31)

Hello Readers.

Lines were something I looked for during the second half of the year.

Do you remember the Between the Lines theme for for Friendly Friday Photo Challenge (here)? –  And these Priorhouse posts: Canada Lines here and Richmond Lines here?

Do you remember Life Of B’s October’s LINES & Squares (here)?

Today, I have leftover photos that were taken for the lines they offered – while connecting to the theme of HOPE.

__

Are you Ready? Go grab a cup of tea – or maybe just skim the photos… 😉

1) SO MANY LINES. THIS PHOTO REMINDED ME HOW LIFE CAN FEEL COMPLEX AT TIMES – ALSO QUITE ORDERED, STABLE, TOGETHER AND “LIT  UP” JUST FINE – SO LET’S ENJOY THE STRENGTH FROM LAYERED AND BUILT UP.
2) THIS NEXT “LINES” PHOTO REMINDED ME THAT SOMETIMES LIFE CAN HAVE UNCOMPLICATED SEASONS. MAYBE COLD, MAYBE PRETTY IN THEIR OWN WAY (WITH LESS) OR BY ENDURING- JUST REMEMBER DORMANT SEASONS ARE NEEDED TO REFUEL FOR THE BLOOMING DAYS.
3) SOMETIMES IN LIFE IT IS “OKAY” TO BE ON OUR PHONE. I MEAN, THEY ARE LITTLE POCKET-SIZED ADVANCED COMPUTERS. I KNOW WE DO NOT WANT TO “LIVE” THERE – AND WE NEED TO WATCH BLOCKING THE THROAT CHAKRA (SEE THE POST HERE) – BUT THIS LINES PHOTO REMINDED ME OF THE JOY I OFTEN HAVE WHEN I CHECK IN ON SOCIAL MEDIA. LIKE RECENTLY – READING SOME OF THE COMMENTS ON THE “WHAT TO WEAR” POSTS (LIKE THIS ONE HERE) BROUGHT SO MUCH JOY. ALSO — IN THE PHOTO – THE BACKLIGHT AND LINES ON THE FLOOR REMINDED ME OF PATHS WE TAKE, ART IN OUR LIFE – AND MAYBE TIMES WHERE WE EMBRACE SOME ALONE TIME: SET THE BAG TO THE SIDE – CHECK IN WITH SOME ONLINE PEEPS – ENJOY THE QUIET MOOD – ETC…
4) LOVE THE MAN WALKING (CHECK OUT THAT STRAIGHT LEG) AND BOTH THE MOTORCYCLE MAN AND SUIT GUY ARE COMING TOWARDS THE LINE AT THE SAME TIME. CONTRAST HERE ((SUIT VS. RIDING ATTIRE; WALKING VS. BEING ON WHEELS)) – AND THEN THE SIGNS, LINES, AND BUILDINGS ADD OTHER ELEMENTS THAT BRING A CERTAIN MOOD..
5) I THINK YOU CAN SEE WHY THE LINES APPEALED HERE. THE SHADOW SOMEWHAT MIRRORS THIS WALKER’S BODY. WE HAVE SHADOWS, THE STRONG POST LEFT AND THE WIDE OPEN STREET. THE PINK SNEAKERS STAND OUT AS HER OUTFIT MATCHES THE ROAD COLORS. AND…. THIS PHOTO REMINDED ME ABOUT THE UNIQUENESS OF OUR LIFE. HOW WE NEED TO ENCOURAGE SELF AND CELEBRATE WHO WE ARE FOR WHAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW. THERE WAS A JOKE IN A MAGAZINE ABOUT HOW AFTER SOME PEOPLE WATCH AWARD CEREMONIES THEY WRESTLE WITH HOW MUCH THEY HAVE “NOT” ACCOMPLISHED. OR FEEL LIKE THEY DID NOT “DO” ENOUGH – OF COURSE THIS IS ALWAYS MINIMIZING SO MANY “RIGHT CHOICES” THEY HAVE MADE IN LIFE. AND MAYBE THE CHOICE TO NOT PURSUE CERTAIN THINGS – OR IT IS WRONGFULLY COMPARING BECAUSE AS WE ALL KNOW – EVERYONE’S PATH IS SO UNIQUE AND THE COMPARING GAME EITHER PUFFS UP OR DEFLATES. WE KNOW THIS MESSAGE – TO NOT COMPARE – BUT WE NEED TO KEEP HEARING IT BECAUSE COMPARING SUBTLY CREEPS IN AND CAN ROB OUR JOY. SO… BE YOU. STAY YOU. MODIFY FROM MENTORS AND EXAMPLES – BUT ADD YOUR FLAIR AND DON’T COMPARE.
6) YOU MIGHT RECOGNIZE THAT THIS STREET PHOTO WAS TAKEN IN ATALANTA WITH THE PHOTOS I SHARED IN THIS POST HERE.  THIS PHOTO HAD THE LINES OF THE SIDEWALK – LIKED HOW THE TWO GUYS WERE BOTH WALKING TOWARDS EACH OTHER – BOTH IN STRIDE WITH A FOOT UP – A DUALITY WITH SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES. REMINDED ME, AGAIN, ABOUT HOW WE ARE ALIKE IN MANY WAYS – YET SO DIFFERENT. THE TREE AND LIGHTS ADD A BIT MORE….

7) LINES IN THE RIM, LOGO, FENDER… WOULD HAVE WENT WELL IN BECKY’S OCTOBER CHALLENGE. HOWEVER, HERE IT IS NOW. AND THIS PHOTO REMINDS ME OF HOW “WE PLAN OUR WAYS – BUT GOD DIRECTS OUR STEPS.” AN OLD PROVERBS SAYS “A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” – AND FOR ME – THIS MEANS I PLAN, KEEP AN OPEN HAND AS OPPOSE TO A TIGHT FIST – AND STAY OPEN TO GOD’S LEADING. — ABLE TO YIELD WHEN NEEDED – ABLE TO PLOW AHEAD AT TIMES – BUT ALSO OPEN FOR DIRECTION – WHEN I NEED TO TURN THE WHEELS AND HEAD IN A NEW DIRECTION (IF NEEDED).

8) THIS PHOTO IS FROM 2018 – IT WAS IN THE SAME LEFTOVERS FOLDER WITH THAT TIRE. I THOUGHT IT FIT HERE BECAUSE – WELL WHAT DO YOU SEE WITH THE BUMPER STICKERS? SORRYLESS AND I HAVE CHATTED ABOUT CARS AND BUMPER STICKERS BEFORE – BUT WHAT THIS REMINDED ME OF WAS CELEBRATING OUR JOURNEY. THIS PERSON OBVIOUSLY HAD FUN COLLECTING – AND DISPLAYING STICKERS. I LIKE THE “CULTURE ON TAP” ONE – BUT THIS MADE ME SMILE BECAUSE WE COULD FEEL THE ESSENCE OF THIS PERSON. JUST BEING WHO THEY ARE AND SWEETLY COLLECTING STICKERS. MAYBE SOME PEOPLE GET TOO SERIOUS IN LIFE? YES, THE SERIOUSNESS CAN SETTLE IN (OH TOO EASILY) — MAYBE SOME OF US NEED TO LIGHTEN UP AND GET EXCITED ABOUT GETTING A SMALL SOUVENIR  THE NEXT TIME WE DO SOMETHING. A MAGNET, STICKER, BOOKMARK – NOT MORE JUNK AND NOT MORE ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE – BUT HOW ABOUT SOMETHING LITTLE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO HAVE CHILD-LIKE JOY – – CELEBRATE WHAT “YOU” GET TO DO.
9) I MENTIOEND IN YESTERDAY’S “WHAT TO WEAR” POST THAT IN AN ‘INTRO TO BUSINESS’ CLASS WE TALKED ABOUT COMMERCIALS, CLOTHING – AND MARKETING KITS. THIS ‘HAVE HOPE’ KIT WAS A MEANINGFUL PACK TO DISCUSS. WE TALKED ABOUT THE LOGO, THE PHRASE THEY CHOSE TO CONNECT WITH BRANDING, THE CONTRAST WITH BLACK AND WHITE, AND CHOICE OF NO COLOR. DISCUSSED THE WAY BRACELETS, BUTTONS, AND DECALS ALIGN WITH THEIR PURPOSE AND GOALS. HOWEVER, THE BUSINESS MISSiON WAS AWESOME – HAVE HOPE. DID YOU GET THAT? HAVE HOPE AND LET’S BE PROACTIVE ABOUT COPING WITH DISCOURAGING MOMENTS AND TIMES OF DESPAIR. “IT IS OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY” – BUT PLEASE DO NOT STAY THAT WAY. GET BUSY FINDING WHAT YOU NEED. COME ON – YOU CAN DO THIS – AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE NEED TO NIP THINGS IN THE BUD BEFORE AN ISSUE BECOMES A PROBLEM. WE NEED TO BRING THOUGHTS CAPTIVE ((NOT EVERY THOUGHT DESERVES TO STAY – OH NO)) AND WE NEED TO ADJUST OUR EXPECTATIONS…. WATCH DEMANDINGNESS….  WATCH CONSUMERISM AND ANGST FOR SHIT THAT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER.–  SO YES, IT IS “OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY” BUT DON’T STAY THERE – LET GOD SHOW YOU WHAT YOU NEED – AND LEARN HOW TO LEAN “ON” AND LEAN “INTO” HIS STRENGTH – BECAUSE GOD ALREADY KNEW YOUR NAME BEFORE YOU WERE BORN AND HAS GOOD PLANS FOR YOUR LIFE: plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO ABOUT “HOPE FOR TODAY’ – THIS COULD BE A RESOURCE YOU PASS ON TO SOMEONE WHO NEEDS IT. THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE AND WHILE MANY OF US JUST SET UP OUR PLAYLISTS TO TIRCKLE OUT SOME JOYFUL CHRISTMAS JAMS AND MANY ARE TURNING OFF THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS WITH A SMILE AS THEY HEAD OFF TO BED – BUT FOR SOME PEOPLE – THE MISERY OF THE SEASON IS STARTING. FOR SOME PEOPLE – THIS HOLIDAY SEASON IS ANOTHER PAIN-IN-THE-ASS DOWNER AND ANOTHER BLAH OR EVEN STRESSFUL TIME. LET’S GET THE WORD OUT AND BE PROACTIVE – AND DO NOT FORGET THAT SERVING OTHERS AND DOING OUTREACH IS GOOD FOR THE HUMAN SOUL. FEEL DISCONTENTED? GO DO SOME OUTREACH. MAYBE IT STARTS WITH SUPPORTING HOPE FOR TODAY WITH A SMALL DONATION TO HELP GET SOME RESOURCES OUT THERE SO PEOPLE HAVE SOMETHING TO PULL FROM WHEN THE MOMENTS GET REAL HARD. IF WE HAVE SEEDS PLANTED – THINGS COULD SPROUT WHEN SOMEONE NEEDS IT MOST.  …. MANY THANKS TO HOPE FOR TODAY FOR THEIR COMMUNITY OUTREACH. —– ALSO, XINGFUMAMA (HERE) HAS A FUN POST TO CHECK OUT FEATURING “AUNT KATE’S SAFE AND SANE GUIDE TO THE HOLIDAYS” WITH THIS OPENING: “Since Grandma passed away this year (one of six major deaths of people we know since the beginning of April) the holiday ads designed to evoke an emotional response had worked their “magic”: I was emotionally raw and spent most of that tiring day on the edge of tears. Combine that with a slightly throbbing head and I couldn’t think straight. What better time than to try and advise folks about the holidays? “Do as I say not as I do?”

Next, I have to share two pages from an old book called “Something of Your Own” and it has sat on our bookshelf for a long time. I skimmed it a few times and recently got to read it.

I liked the message of hope found in some of the pages. The author encourages  folks to start their Own small business.  Of course not everyone is the right fit to be a small business owner (we all know that). But the hope found in this book was through the author’s examples and stories. Here are pages 94-95; this author talked about a rough patch (seriously depressed after she lost her job, her house burned, had no money and she Was fifty years old…) and then she got busy making things happen after the “battering”  –/ Ever feel that way? Sure – we all have. Ever feel like you missed opportunities – or like you are “way late” to the game? Well it might not be too late for some things – This lady was 50 when she really got momentum – and the years leading up – were not all a waste either. No way – because success is found in the everyday joys and not just accomplishments and bank accounts. And trust me – this is not Pollyanna talk – because it is nice to have a business thriving – and a back acccunt with some extra (and debt really sucks) but CONTENTMENT IS FOUND BEYOND  CIRCUMSTANCES. We have to learn how to be okay with little and how to be okay with plenty.  We have to learn how not to get puffed up (happens so easy) or self-deprecate as a way to cope. Let’s stop this. Let’s think of Colonel Sanders, who started a successful business at 65 and failed 1009 times before succeeding (here). So yeah, you have a lot to look forward to  – and that is worth smiling about.

Closing thought

Last night, we watched two episodes of Netflix’s World War II series (amazing series with footage collected from around the world, and GP would have enjoyed them a lot) – and might sound cheesy – but made us super grateful to not be in the middle of a world war. So think about that today –  let it remind us all to be grateful. There is so much to smile about. And if yo need more reasons to smile, check out Trent’s WEEKLY SMILE post here

  1. You have so much in this post, Yvette, that I don’t know what to comment on first. I think I’ll stick with responding to what you more or less ended with. First, if you have not one to lean on, lean on the Lord..and lean on Him even if you have people to lean on. He’s the only one that won’t let you down. Secondly, this is an excellent time of the year to reach out to others, even in small ways: a smile, a plate of cookies, a gift certificate, a bag of groceries, the gift of time to listen or help clean or… Something that is small to you may mean so much to a lonely person.

    Happy Friday!

    1. Janet! Thanks for taking the time to comment – and I did not plan this post today – I was going to share a friday food recipe with a new pudding recipe – it has only three ingredients – chia seeds and unsweetened almond milk and then stevia – well it is not “regular” pudding but a nice alternative to not having dairy and sugar.
Anyhow – I did feel god lead this post and it did not take too long to put together – just flowed so naturally –
And so I do think there is a message here for someone – even if it is just to remind folks to look for ways to serve – look for ways to reach out because it comes back our way in many ways.
And your point about letting the lord fill your cup – that sure is where it is at so thanks for adding that with your smoothness (sometimes people can be so preachy but you are never that way – and I appreciate that )

and thanks for readi and commenting

      1. The pudding sounds interesting. Is it good? I think something to remember about reaching out is that it may not always come back to you from that person, but hopefully they can pass it on to someone else. Reaching out is good for you even if you don’t always feel that it accomplishes anything for the other person. Sometimes the other person may not even appreciate it, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have tried. And they might come to appreciate it later.

    2. Good point Janet – and was just watching a video where rats enjoyed helping other rats get out of a stuck situation – they were healthier and the researcher concluded with “want a life boost? Go and help someone”
-And the pudding was pretty good – in its own way – with all the perks of chia seeds – when (if) I do make a Friday good post with it I will
Come by and let you 😉

  2. I love the photos and the commentary on them, as well as the book “quote” (Is it a quote if you show the actual book?) The WW2 generation is not called “the greatest generation” for nothing! That war effected everybody in the entire country, with food rationing, drives for scrap metal, etc., etc. Everyone made sacrifices, and many the ultimate sacrifice. Humbling…. And, yes, grateful not to be living through such times.

    1. Hi Trent – yeah / it sounds like it would be a quote if the page is added – and I had this book snippets for a while – cannot recall the post I had in mind so it went here – the December cleaning –
And your comments on WWII are spot on. And the documentaries on Netflix are so good because I guess they gathered extra footage and put it together – then we had bird’s eye views for things – like they showed the world area beach where the two “privates” that got the blob on their radar -before the Pearl Harbor attack – but it was ignored by Admiral Kimmel – and just so many extras –

  3. There is a lot to digest here. The awareness of what to do when someone is in a mental health crisis is something we don’t think about until we need it. Even though I was up to date on first aid training I had no idea what to do the one time I had to deal with a suicide attempt. Fortunately I knew someone I could call and ask.
Being positive and focusing on good things doesn’t make you naive, it takes a lot of strength to keep plugging toward the good when life beats at you.

  4. Fabulous lines, in all senses of the word. Thank you so so much for linking up with my posts, and for sharing such wisdom as we approach the end of the year

    1. Thanks a lot sorryless – and I did not realize that photo does have that Beatles vibe.
      — earlier this year – actually when we were in Pennsylvania – we stayed at a BandB and they gave us the Beatles room- which had a photo of their iconic walking across the street A with the little BW beatle in the background –

    2. It was not planned to be themed – the B and B actually is just converting the rooms because they realized being so close to where Woodstock festival was they could sync with that – good idea – eh)

Did you read Brokaw's book on The Greatest Generation? I loved that. I may forcefeed it to my children at some point…
