NOSTALGIC (Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #75 & 2020 Countdown Day 7)

For my take – I have doggie photos and then memories from Christmas 2009.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE PHOTO OF OUR DOG COMMODORE CODY (RIP 2016)  BECAUSE HE LOVED TO GARDEN RIGHT NEXT TO ME. HE WAS LIKE A SHADOW IN THE YARD – (AND NOT IN AN ANNOYING WAY) – NO MATTER WHAT I WAS DOING, CODY WAS A CLOSE COMPANION AND HE ALSO LIKED KEEPING WATCH. SOME OF THE SWEETEST OF MY DAYS WERE WITH CODY IN THE YARD OR GARDEN.

CODY ALSO STARTED RESTING HIS PAW ON MY FOOT (in his older years). I WOULD JOURNAL AT NIGHT AND HE WOULD REST IT THERE SO GENTLY. I FINALLY DECIDED TO GRAB A PHOTO OF IT ONCE OR TWICE. CODY WOULD ALSO SEEM TO KNOW WHEN CROCK- POT FOOD WAS DONE – HE WOULD GO SIT UNDERNEATH THE COUNTER WHEN IT WAS ALMOST READY. HOW DID HE KNOW? THE SMELL INTENSIFIED PERHAPS?  – AN INNER CLOCK – OR THAT DOGGIE SENSING? 
THIS IS MY FAVORITE PHOTO OF OUR DOG STEVE (RIP 2018) BECAUSE HE WAS A SNUGGLE-BUNNY, SWEETHEART, SPAZZY-AT-TIMES KIND OF DOG. SIR STEVEN GAVE ME A FEW (MANY) GRAY HAIRS, BUT IT WAS WORTH IT FOR THE LOVE AND JOY. HE HAD A WIMPY SIDE BUT HE ALSO WAS DELIGHTFUL. WHILE CODY WOU BE NEAR ME IN THE YARD — STEVE WOULD WaNDER ALL AROUND AND THEN PERCH IN AN AREA IN THE SHADE. — IN THIS pHOTO – WE DID NOT USUALLY ALLOW DOGGIES ON ANY BEDS – (JUST A PRIORHOUSE POLICY…) BUT THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN EARLY ON AND MY FRIEND, K., HAD JUST GIVEN US THOSE SHEETS (SILKY, HIGH-THREAD COUNT) – anyhow – THIS PHOTO – OF STEVE ON THE BED REMINDS ME OF STEVE AT THAT LIFE STAGE – AND THAT SHEET SET AND LAVENDER PILLOWCASE BRING BACK THE WARM MOOD OF LIFE THEN.

Our first set of dogs were similar to our second set – here are Ginger and Maryann

OUR DOGGIES FROM THE 1990s. GINGER (CHOW-COLLIE) AND MARYANN (LABRADOR – OUR MOST EXPENSIVE DOG OF THE FOUR). 

 

 

Priors from 2009. We used to go and see “A Christmas Carol” musical every year (at a local college ) for about 12 years in a row. However, we stopped going because many of the long-time actors retired and the replacements were terrible actors and the directing was bad. It was actually painful to sit through. So do feel a little nostalgic for those earlier years when the play was so good. We used to have photo opps with the characters after the musical and on this year, we had a photo opportunity with Marley ((“I wear the chain I forged in life – made it link by link, yard by yard”)) Oh, and my boys had the chance to act in a version of A Christmas Carol back in 2013 – that was fun (and really boring to be honest)

Now – a song….

The first time I heard this  El Cerito Place song by Kenny Chesney was around Christmas 2012 or 2013. Not sure which Christmas it was, but I liked it at holiday time. You might already know it, but if not, maybe have a listen and let me know what you think.

  8. I just adore all of your doggie photos! The thing about our pets is that we may temporarily lose their physical presence but they never really leave us! ❤ What a great family photo. You do have a beautiful family!

    1. It still warms my heart. His nickname was Commodore Cody because he was so intelligent and his social skills were “smart” – and he had a commanding side with a splash of chilvary – a bit of contrast to Steve, brothers from the same litter

  11. Thanks so much for sharing those memories Yvette! We too had a Christmas Carol tradition. On Christmas Eve my brothers and I would stay up until 2 am and watch 3 different versions of the movie. I still smile when I think of it 😊

    1. Hi Norah – glad to share some Chesney music – he is one of favorite singers (and I like Sean McConnell and my husband sings – love his voice too) anyhow – this song has been done by a few artists but I like Kenny’s the most 🎼❤️

      although there is a lot of “off the cuff” singing around our place – my son belts out lines and well – I like to sing a bit too – I think we are a very oral family

  14. I love the dog photos Yvette – all the precious pets and their memories and always poignant to look back and relive the joy they bring to our lives. Being alongside a special pet not only spells contentment for you, but for that pet as well. The Christmas caps made those photos extra sweet. The El Cerrito Place song was very nice; I like country music, though I don’t listen to it much and it’s my first song I heard by Kenny Chesney.

    1. thanks Linda – and glad to introduce Kenny Chesney to you – he is a country singer that sometimes has songs on the pop charts – and he is one of my favorite singers – 🙂 cool dude too – maybe that good energy trickles into his music

  15. Old Yeller! (A 1957 sentimental family movie about a yellow lab.) I love dogs, could look at dog pix all day. What wonderful animals you have and have had. Superb.

  18. Awww, so happy to see your pupper memories. What cuties!
    In my youth, I was taken to A Christmas Carol many years at Indianapolis Repertory Theatre, and unlike my feelings for the annual trip to see The Nutcracker, I grew quite bored of it and am glad I am not dragged there as an adult 🙂
