Canned Soup Kinda Park (Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #86)

This week, the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge theme is Reflection. 

Usually archive photos come in handy when photo challenge themes come out.

However, this weekend we had the chance to visit a small little local park and grabbed photos for the “reflection” theme.  

I had not been to this park since my children were little – and it brought back memories of them as well as gave me a chance to enjoy nature reflections.

A little later in the day – after we visited this small park… I told my hubs that the park reminded me of canned soup. We chatted for a minute and then he agreed. 

What did we mean by canned soup?

Well you know how canned soup has “old” ingredients, which have also been processed? And canned soup is edible – and might be really great for wartime  – but canned soup is processed and it is not really that fresh? This park seemed that way – it seemed “man designed” – processed and a bit worn – it did not seem like being in the raw outdoors.

Still nice, but had that “canned soup” kind of feel.

Before you think I am dissin’ on the small local park, I am still grateful for any and all parks.

Last month we watched the miniseries, “The Men Who Built America” – and I was reminded how we have Teddy Roosevelt to thank for so many of our parks. 

The show did not mention much about Teddy –  he only came in at the end of the show – but they highlighted how he was “helped” into office, as vice-president, by powerful organizations who never imagined he would become president. The miniseries was great and I now know how to say the name Carnegie properly: Car – ne’ – gie – :0) while we also saw some ugly connections to the early business in the U.S.

Anyhow, Teddy’s devotion to conserving our natural and cultural history is something to be thankful for – even with some of these canned soup kinda parks.

  2. I had to laugh about your canned soup Park, Yvette. Reminded me of when I was at school in England and used to walk home instead of taking the bus, just so I could spend my four pence halfpenny fare on a small can of Heinz tomato soup which I absolutely lived. 😅

    2. Hi – that is a good story, S, and I have to say that canned tomato soup can be pretty tasty. And add a grill cheese to that and mmmm – nice lunch
      and when I was in middle school I would keep two quarters in my sock and after practice, I’d stop my bike by a milk carton vending machine and get a quart of milk and drink it down and then finish riding home – your soup story reminded me of that

  3. Yvette, It must be nice to visit a park which reminded you of your time bring your children there. Your reflection photos are great and a couple of them were so well done that I had to look hard to find the blending of the subjects and reflected images. I don’t eat canned soup. Thank you for your post.

    1. Thanks for the detailed comment – and we only went there one time with our children so there was not too much of that reflecting – ha – but I did recall 15 years ago being there – my time flies

      1. Oh, there are many places I haven’t been more than 15 years. I still tell Hubby to take me back to, let’s say, Arizona. The last time being there was 25 years ago.

  5. I love reflections on the water or ice – always have and am amazed when reflections occur when the day is gray as it can be – that makes the reflection even more special. These reflections are beautiful Yvette. I did know that about Teddy Roosevelt – he was also famous for teddy bears.

  16. Funny, but we have a very similar building near a reservoir here in Indy.
    Canned soup is likely on the menu this month so canned soup park seems fitting.
