Making Time to Stop and Take Some Photos (Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #97 – Pastimes)

Hello everyone,

the Lens-Artists theme this week is Pastimes, or what we do for enjoyent

One of my pastimes is “making time to stop and take some photos”

You know how they say that life is better when we “make time to stop and smell the roses”?

Well for me, my life is enriched by taking some photos – even if you just grab a quick shot.

Let’s start with this house I was driving by after visiting cousins down in Tampa, Florida.

On my way to the airport – I noticed the unique art in the window – and made time to stop.

This house was also nothing like the other, two-story older homes in the area. It stood out.

These are not the greatest photos but they have an essence of that trip.

They remind me of what it was like that day – to park the rental car and feel some quiet.

To appreciate stillness, peace, all while enjoying this person’s art display. Sometimes we have these beautiful moments in life that are found in the margins. Nice moments that photo help to preserve a bit.

And maybe this is another example of the power of art – right? Someone else’s art – but also the art of blogging – where we get to share…. 🙂

I made time to stop and take the photo when I visited my mother (not during the pandemic) – and she had this little pin that I gave to her back in the 1980s.

It brought back a flood of memories – of my mom – and also because in High School we used to draw this type of cat all the time. It is a Sandra Boynton cat. I then taught my children how to draw this cat!

Anyhow, taking a photo of the pin brings smile every time I see it.

And when I visit my sister – who married a Canadian and lives in the great, beautiful white north – I make time to grab photos of various pieces of art – like this hockey player painting   – not bad, eh?

And here are some berries…..

I actually took the photo of “berries soaking” to show a blogger friend, Marcia, because she recently had a great post about the quadruple soaking of her garden lettuce. Then we got to chatting and she offered to send me cut lavender – how sweet is that? It is very sweet. Blogging friends are awesome – aren’t they?

Our “in-person” friends can be awesome too – and earlier this year I grabbed this photo with my friend Karin.

Did you know that she was the first friend I met when we moved to Virginia 15 years ago? I was only in this state for six days and I still remember meeting her. So many other friends have come and gone – but others sometimes have staying power. In this photo – we both “made time” to stop and grab a beverage. Because it does take a time investment to make sure we stay connected – doesn’t it? 🙂

I also made time to grab a photo of our new pet!

Yes, we brought Elway home two weeks ago.

Some of you might recall a while back when we shared that we were now officially ready for another dog.

“If you are stressed – go to the lab…” the Labrador that is! Linking to Trent’s weekly smile with Elway. 🙂

Elway is two years old and came from a farm – they had four goats, cats, and this family just brought home a Great Pyrenees puppy to help with the goats. Elway was running away a lot – even willing to get shocked and crossed the electric fence.

And well, it is fun to  have him around.

In closing,

I am so glad that my blog gives me a reason to “stop and take some photos” –

even if most of the photos are just for me.

Oh wait, and the photos are also for all those folks who like to get in on other’s people wifi (just kidding – lol)

.

Ok – let’s end with a comic from the Randy Glasbergen collection

Wishing you a great day.

Thanks to Sue for hosting this week.

  1. Love the Wi-Fi names. Yes take time to be yourself and time with others who are special in your life. That dog looks like trouble and fun for you. Hope he doesn’t run away from your place Yvette 🙂

    1. Hi BB – thanks for the nice comment – and we both know what it is like to take time – and make time – for connecting – and thanks again for being part of my support system when Commodore Cody passed away.
oh and Elway has been getting walks twice a day – so that helps with energy and needing to run – only got out once to go after a bunny and got him back – 🙂 woof

  4. Another fun post, Y! I have a Boynton mug that I’ve had since the 80s. I like it so much I keep it on a shelf and don’t use it! It has that cat on it with such an expression and it says “Whoopee” very sarcastically. I used to use it at work. I don’t think my boss at the time was impressed! LOL! Love those wifi names! But, of course, the best photos are of Elway! What a beauty! Love it!

    1. Hi L….
oh your mug sounds awesome and I can picture the cat and the image. At first I was thinking it might be a cat with the balloons-
and when my children were little – the Boynton hardcover books were one of my favorite collections to pick from from daily reading. Good stuff.
      and hoping you are well
      xoxo

      1. oh that is super fun – maybe later you can share a photo of it. because hey, some folks have never had the pleasure of getting to see some of Boynton’s art.
and the mug I have saved away is a rooster art mug with a cool handle given to me by my son. It is artsy and good for a special cup of tea – but is one of my favorite gifts – that and the toilet paper pack earlier this year (kidding – hahaha)

  5. I hope Elway is adjusting to his non-farm environment and new family. He looks happy 🙂 I think the window art is great. And the wifi names… Yep, when that van is parked in front of the house I always see that first one pop up.

    1. hi. thanks for making me laugh
and we did not have the white van for a while – but did have the black Subaru – and the Kia renal cars – hahah –
Elway is doing well – my hubs got him off grain dog food – and walks him often – but Elway also has a sweet side besides being a champion runner He knows how to give a hug – gently sits and up go the paws. Little cuddle bunny

    1. hi Sue – thanks for the comment – and you reminded me of a Jim Gaffigan joke whee ha talked about “all these photos” we are taking these days. And some folks have old computers they keep just for the photos library. haha
well hopefully I won’t have too many random photos that clutter and become wasted hard drive space. but so far – it truly has been a nice pastime – thanks again for hosting

  7. Nice collection of pastime photos. As a rule, we have very few long term friends. They are to be treasured. I am sure you are also going to have a long-term friend in Elway. Great post!

  10. Good friends, including our blogging friendships we make, are all special. I like your photos Yvette and I remember the Boynton cat ‘toons. The cartoon and wifi were funny too. I knew someone who did the free wifi for years and made no apologies for it … then they reconfigured the room with the wifi … that was the death knell for free wifi!

      1. I have Comcast and they have been allowing people free access to Comcast for work and school. Okay, school I get the free internet, but not for working at home – you work from home, you are paid, so you can pay for internet. Mine is $96.95 per month as I don’t have a bundle with phone or TV, so if you can work from home, then you get internet subscription.
