Take Many, Many Pictures

Hello Readers,

Travel with Intent’s challenge quote this week is this:

“Photography is pretty simple stuff. You just react to what you see, and take many, many pictures.”

– Elliott Erwitt

My take on the quote is that I agree with the value of  taking “many, many pictures”  – because it offers benefits (although not sure if photography is pretty simple stuff – guess it depends on your end goal).

I call this “blue joy”

Sometimes we can use our many many pictures to have options for blog challenges, or we can use some of the pictures for a video collage for an event – and then other times we can use some of our “many, many pictures” to go back and celebrate a moment.

I call this “green joy”

And with the idea of “many, many pictures” we can connect to the “Positive Psychology” tenet about how “many, many positive emotions” can be micro nutrients for a person’s mood and affect.

I call this “celestial joy”

The idea is something like this: “It is not necessarily the intensity of positive emotions that has the greatest impact; instead, it is the frequency of positive emotions.”

So a lot of positive emotions are like micronutrients to your mood.

So when we take our many, many pictures – and then delete as needed – 🙂

let’s remember to savor and enjoy some of the moments we grabbed.

Let’s use our many photos to stir up some positive emotions because they can be micro nutrients to our mood.

I call this “nature joy”

What do you think of the quote? Do you take “many, many pictures”?

Have a great day and if you want to join in with Debbie’s quote of the week – the challenge is here

  1. I take many, many pictures for many, many reasons. A fun concept how you give your photos ‘titles.’ You are reminding me how I am appreciating some micro nutrients right about now. I was planning to do some photo sorting this afternoon and I will also look upon it as celebrating a moment. A great, timely post, Yvette.

    1. Hi Erica/Erika
I also need to do some serious photo sorting and deleting – – but it is a labor of love and I will try and get my micro nutrients too – hahah

hope your weekend is going well

  2. If you have taken many pictures, you can delete the unsuccessful ones and keep the good ones.
Also, in no time things change, and what’s left is only a picture. I wish I had taken way more pictures in some moments that are gone now and will never come back.
I lived for 46 years without camera. So, my pictures start around age 50 when I arrived in Canada. I have old albums with a few pictures, nothing much to show for all 46 years. my husband has even fewer, they lost the real pictures in fire.
I lost my main computer this year and a few years of pictures which didn’t have backups are lost.
So, yes, they have value, these many many pictures. Nothing easier than to delete and nothing more difficult than to get them back. It makes maybe sense to put more on some cloud storage.

    1. Hi Inese, I am so sorry that you lost some photo recently – and that your spouse lost his early ones in a fire.

I have lost some now and then and for a while I had a know every time i thought about it. However, now I have been okay with it and even though I do still like to document events – I have changing views — maybe I keep an “open fist” with it all – or try to –

I think comedians have often joked about how many photos some people take – and also how quickly we go through computers – and one comedian looked in his closet and said “that old computer – that has my photos from 2010, and that computer has 2009” – it was something like that.

Then I heard someone say that we should print at least one special photo per month – on archival paper and have a non-digital photo library to pass on — hmm – I might just do that in 2021

thanks for the nice comment and hope your weekend is going well

  3. I take many pictures Yvette and in October I sorted out many I took in September/early October and now I have still another photo card that is groaning with pics from late October/all of November. It is good as who knows what happens with this pandemic after this weekend and the upcoming holidays – will they close outside venues or recommend not going there. I don’t think so and more than likely snow or bad weather will cause me stop taking the treks which are spun into picture-laden posts. Sorting pics is on this weekend’s agenda. I like the nature shot – I would like to be there as you probably guessed.

    1. Hi Linda – yes, I can see you with the nature spot.
And I also know that you love your “many, many pictures” -all ranging from squirrels, to our feathered friends, to flowers, trees and sometimes people doing their thing – good stuff from those walks of yours and whew – sorting and deleting can truly be arduous – 🙂

      1. I had big plans for viewing, sorting and deleting over the long holiday, but we had good weather … the first two days were a little dreary, but no rain. I knew we were getting snow tomorrow, maybe 4-8 inches so I spent a lot of time walking, taking more pictures. I will be using a lot of them through the next few months, interspersed with Christmas. I figured, good weather means you should get yourself in gear and enjoy it. I used to really enjoy photography when I was younger. Sorry it took me so long to get back into it.

        1. I savored yesterday as I knew we had this snow storm coming. Originally they predicted 4-8 inches but the snow has begun, but now 2-4 inches which is a lot easier to take. It will warm up so by the weekend most of it should melt. But yes – enjoy the moment as it applies to everything, especially this year.

  4. I like the phrase “micro nutrients to our mood. I have never regretted taking pictures and have sometimes regretted not. I was especially glad that I took many of my nieces, who had difficult childhoods including divorce of their parents and other very bad things, but we had good times when they were little. For their high school graduations I created galleries that showed the good times, I think that it is very important, even when life is difficult to remember and claim the good and it isn’t always easy. It is easy for the negative to become the most remembered allowing it more power than it deserves.

    1. Hi -what a beautiful thing that you were able to create the galleries for nieces – and how it highlighted the good times and likely became a great keepsake
Sadly, I still need to do this for my nieces and nephews – I have 8mm tapes to go through!

and really important quote from you in that comment – worth repeating (and thanks for it)

  6. I think it is good to take many pictures and toss the ones you do not need out. I see professional photographers good number of shots even she/he do not move to give different frames or just move slightly for different framing. I am quite sure they will spend a good amount of time to decide which ones are the best ones to use. For us or at least for me, not quite in the habit of doing so and many times get disappointed that the one or two pictures aren’t good.

    1. I know what you mean about only taking one or two pictures that later “aren’t good” – it still happens to me – and I also have seen the pros do what you noted – take so many !!
      thanks for the comment

    1. Hi Cindy – well I was using the prompt for this post – I do think we should take a lot of photos – but not sure how many – and sometimes when I only take one snap of something and later it is blurry – I wish I would have slowed down to take more or at least check the image — so now my rule is to try and take a second one if it is just random capturing –
      and thank for reading

  8. I enjoyed all those “joy” shots, Yvette. And your words were good too 🙂 Photos are so important for memories – be they personal and emotional, or more documentary.

    1. Hi Denise – it is so hard to delete because what if we need that photo sometime – especially when you feature house decor and projects – sometimes that “fifth” or “25th” photo is the one that fits a post
whew – very hard to delete –
