They look very much like the flower we call hibiscus. I have some red ones in my garden. Beautiful!

We have those planted outside the front door all along our side of the street. They were cut back hard by the council so not in bloom at the moment π€π

oh how lovely that you have these all along that area
and hope they come back strong!
these flowers are noted for their hardiness (you might already know that) and in my experience they grow easily in average soil and prefer the ground to being potted –
and Steinbeck named a character Rose of Sharon in Graies of Wrath

They do! We used to have a dark leaved tree but they ‘wept’ all over the pavement so the council replaced them with these 3 or 4 years ago and they are great. π

Beautiful pics of the Rose of Sharon. I have one in my flower beds. It is so pretty. The problem I have is that as the blooms fall, new tiny shoots come up all over the place. I spend hours pulling tiny Rose of Sharon bushes every summer.

hi Laurie
oh my – did you say hours?
i always have offshoots of this chiffon rose of sharon hibiscus variety but never so many it takes a long time – i wonder if it is because of different species or soils
but i have gifted dozens of “starters” because these hardy and easy to grow shrubs also have that generous side – but that must be annoying to have so many shoots
My Henry’s Garnet is that way and will be leaving us this year – their roots are invasive and will miss the shrub for some reasons but tired of the shoots-

Thanks for the floral lift Yvette … eye candy and ear candy too! What a gorgeous shade of purple and the first shot is really enhanced by the water droplets.

hi linda! thanks for the sweet comment and i am scheduling posts this year (trying it out at least) and so when i set this uo last week – i did nkt realize i would need the color
lift too – but yesterday i was fighting something off and it was there days of rain and i felt a similar lift as you mentioned
and i know you have some trios and other things planned for your retirement (when that time comes) and maybe a small garden is on the list – if so – i’ll send a few rose of sharon starters your way / just an idea)

That would be nice Yvette. I’ve never had rose of sharon in the yard and I do intend to get back into gardening again when retired. I probably went overboard in the garden circa 2008-2011 and when I lost almost everything due to the Polar Vortex I lost interest in it … I loved my butterfly garden and would love to have one again. Maybe the hummingbirds would like that as well as I only had one last year. Last year I was ahead on my posts and scheduled them a few weeks in advance and it was fun to see them again as each one published.
