Blues and Greens (Lens-Artists Photo Challenge 5-23-21)

The theme this week for Len’s Artist Challenge is Blue and Green.

Starting off with this image that has a lot of blue and touch of green to the side 

Can you guess what this is? Answer will be at the bottom- but try and guess and let me know what you thought (or not)

 Tina invited bloggers to contribute photos with cool colors of blue and green – so let’s do that – yes – let’s explore – and start with these little eggs (and birds that can from them), which are now perched outside my door.

Guess what else?  The bird eggs are in Geraniums that I stored over winter. Thanks to Linda for the idea. These same flowers were also featured in a September LAPC post here.

How did I overwinter two hanging Geranium pots? The first part of winter they were in the garage and I mostly forgot about them. When I remembered them, I gave them tiny drinks and on some days – placed them outside for a few hours.  Every time I moved them, I had a small whiff of geranium – not sure if it was the leaves or the spent blooms, but it was a treat.

For the next over-wintering phase, I moved them into the dining room.  As an empty nester, it is totally okay to have dormant geraniums at the base of the windows in the dining room.  Then, the last phase involved long days outside – to harden them a bit.  When I hung them back up in spring (after the frost was gone in Zone 7) – I realized they looked messy.  Well – they looked like they had just endured a winter!  (sound familiar – ha).  Anyhow, I was going to take them down – but then discovered the bird eggs were there and now the family is busy coming and going.  And just this week, I noticed the plants are filling out and leaves are turning a vibrant green. Looks like they might be staying there. They are recovering from the winter – and we can too. Yes, indeed – and now let’s look at ore green and blue 

We have had our dog, Elway, for one year now. He loves the beach so much and this is Elway getting ready for the ride home.  The Vera Bradley beach bag just so happened to have those blues and greens.

Down in Florida earlier this year,  I bought another piece of art.  It was a painting by an amateur artist named Caroline. I will share that painting another time because it has a rainbow palette. But today’s photo share shows the piece of art (with blues and greens) that this awesome guy bought while I was buying mine.  The guy’s name was Greg and he is a former minor-league baseball player and we talked for at least an hour after we both bought our discounted art  – ahhhh – good times (Hello Greg if you are reading this)

Speaking of art –

I recently took a group of students on a field trip to the local art museum –

It was the first field trip since the pandemic hit last year.  And this Riverbank painting by French artist Andre Lhote fit the colors this week.

Oh and the opening blue – it was some “Dawn” dish detergent I put into a cup to bring and refill a container at a workspace – lol

  2. OK Yvette, you got me on the dish soap – I saw the name on the bottle and figured it was water in a blue bottle. Close but no cigar. Loved all of your images but the “pipe smoking dude” is the best!! Thanks for having fun with us this week.

    1. Thanks for the comment Tina – and we were getting gas along a beach road when I saw the boat pipe smoking dude off to the side of the road –

  6. I have always liked blues and greens, especially together, Yvette. Wow, bird eggs and now a family is special. I forgot how field trips were likely placed on hold this past year. I would never have guessed “Dawn.” My answer was ocean and forest. 🙂

  8. Hi Yvette, I did not guess it right. I saw the Starbucks label and figured it was some kind of carbonated blue drink that I would never try. In that I was right. I’d never try drinking dish soap! 🙂 Great attention getter. Your post was fun filled. I loved the eggs. Our dentist had two little baby birds in a nest right outside the window where I was sitting. The wind was blowing about 30-50 miles an hour and they clung together for dear life. Apparently there had been three just before I arrived and all the assistants wondered if he made his maiden voyage. I’m glad your geraniums made it. They are hardy. They winter outside in CA. I don’t think so here. 🙂 Good to see you back in the groove. 🙂

      Elway is a mellow pup with times of bursts of energy – but I think if we were talking type A or type B – he is truly a Tyoe B kind of pup and that has been a treat because a Type A pup would have been a lot more work and not that we would not have rose to the occasion – but just grateful for his
      Sweet temperament
      And at the beach – he wears himself out because he splashes
      In the water so much and then keeps thinking he can reach a gull (not in a beach setting)

  13. Yay – you nailed the challenge, great job! I love your selections, and that’s so sweet the birds found the plant to be a safe haven. I hope the plant survives. I did not guess dish soap, I thought it was a water bottle from Starbucks. Thanks for the smiles today, your post was a joy to read!

      And the Geranium plants are thriving –
      The one with the birds has two fliers and the other one is just getting full and leaves vibrant – and I never would have seen that growth had I not waited it out for the eggs to hatch (feeling all sorts of analogies come to mind – ha)

  15. I lean toward blues and greens when I decorate the inside of our house. I think of it as bringing the best of the outside inside. I like the boat dude. He is the perfect kind of whimsy. Great to see you blogging again, btw. Have missed you.

      And as much as I completely enjoyed the break – I did think about my blog often – and grabbed some photos for future use – and so for me – the recent blog break was more of a pause from posting and output – and whew – it was unplanned but was just what the blog doctor ordered )(whoever that might be)
      And your color scheme sounds really fresh and alive –
      I meant to ask how your window treatments came out! Did you post about it – if so – an you leave me a link to the post

      1. I never wrote about the window treatments, so thanks for asking. In the end we went with some neutral roller shades and some basic wood-look blinds. Nothing over the top, just effective at blocking the sun.

  16. Some great images here, Yvette. I especially like the boat dude. And Elway’s eyes are incredible! I didn’t get the challenge right either: I just thought it was another one of those drinks from Starbucks that make me want to never go in there 😉

      Regarding the blue in a Starbucks cup – yup – your sentiments I can relate with – most of their drinks are just SUGAR drinks – and the other day we saw like 40 cars lined up in a drive thru at Starbucks and I wondered what everyone was getting
      I doubt they were getting black coffees or plain teas!??

      Anyhow – the last few times I have been in Starbucks – I have had the best service – and I usually get a tall black coffee –

      1. Like most American brands I’m never sure how well they have travelled over here, but I’m not a fan of Starbucks. But it may be better over there – I hope so, as their coffee here isn’t great!

        1. Hi C – the coffee does vary (IMO) and just had a “pour over” cup that was excellent – it was an 8 out of 10 – but I prefer organic coffee and do notice a difference with acidic levels

  21. A wonderful theme that reminded me of Evening in Paris – a perfume that was so popular in the 1960’s. The bottle was a marvelous blue colour and I always felt that I was in Paris when I dabbed some on my wrists – even though I was living in Northern Canada far, far away from Paris. I wish I had kept a bottle, but still I have a memory. Chanel brought in back in the 1990’s but the bottle is much different. https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/search/object/nmah_716382

  22. Excellent examples and variety. Love the boat and ‘captain’. My guess was carbonated water bottle. I love dogs but would like yours better if it was named Mahomes. 🙂

    1. Hahah – really funny with the Mahomes name – and I am sure there are many pets with that name or some variation in honor of that awesome athlete – but it is all orange crush over here – haha

I’m glad your Geraniums survived, especially when you were about to give up on them. Such a metaphor for negative life episodes, challenges, and our moods.       I really did think the geraniums were “goners” and maybe I was projecting on them – or expecting them not to make it?? Either way – a few life analogies to be extracted for sure – and the potted geraniums are doing quite well this week – lots of blooms!

  31. Wonderful pictures and the last photo with the stick pipe smoking guy is a happy one! I wouldn’t have guessed it was dish detergent…hahaha…I thought it was a blue slushy drink. Boy was I off!

    1. Hi – I think a lot of folks thought it was a drink – and they do have drinks that are that blue (gatorade and others) so it was not that off in another way!
      And we were getting some gas for the car when I saw the pipe guy on his boat – it was a happy find.
      June is off to a pleasant start – I am a little in the weeds with some projects but getting caught up – whew – and July should be nice and quiet in some ways – be over to visit soon

      1. It did look like a drink but a very strong and goopy one! You would need bravery to ingest that.
        Huh, the things you fine when you’re out and about. Whoever put the boat guy there has a great sense of humor.
        I haven’t been too caught up with my blogger friends in the past couple of months. Homeschooling this semester was much different than others and I felt we needed to do more academic. This is a hard balance to make with lived experiences vs. traditional learning. SO much second guessing myself.
        I’m glad to hear your summer is off to a good start. Take care and stay well…

        1. The second guessing yourself is natural and I think it comes more with folks who really want to do the very best for their children. Well that might sound obvious and of course most parents really want the best for their children – so let me rephrase that.
          In my view – there can be more second guessing when someone chooses an alternative path – and homeschooling really is that alternative choice – and then that adds more weight on your shoulders and can add to the second guessing. But no path will be perfect and there are pros and cons to all
          Educational paths – and while homeschooling is not for everyone – it can have so many perks and it might help to see the bigger picture – the aerial view – and the gift 🎁 that this path can be! I can offer more encouragement any time you need a little

        2. Thank you for your encouragement and wise words!! Homeschooling is unconventional and the pressure it places on the teacher is immense. If my kids don’t understand what they’re learning, I take it personally that I’m a bad teacher, but learning is a process. I get that it’s hard because I’m still relearning from my kid’s studies and wondering how I could’ve missed it all these years. It takes time to digest and apply. I kinda got the hurry syndrome. 🙂

        3. Well it was my pleasure to share a bit of encouragement about a topic I know well. I thought of you a few times this past week and will try and share more later –
          but in the meantime, try not to let heaviness rob your joy – because then everyone loses. Of course you know this – so just a reminder.
          And because we homeschooled on and off (mostly on – and not by choice – it was because we moved coast to coast a few times) well I know this subject well – and I see that God appointed it for us. I did kick and scream early on (kidding – but you know what I mean) but I really let God lead and feed and always remembered that there is no perfect path and felt that we could give them a better path with the homeschool option – but like you said – it is NOT easy – there is so much pressure – especially to make sure we reach objectives and all that
          For us, year-round sports rescued us. We were heavy into sports and that worked for us. I also Ade sure we found enough events to join in with so we could stay fresh – but then had seasons of doing too much and being a co-op junkie and had to find balance – but I took it one day at a time and one week at a time – and always trusted that God knew the bigger picture –
          and can share some nice testimony that good things unfolded. Just one year at a time and one semester at a time.
          And sadly, because most schools are “herding” children – the homeschool option can sometimes provide a wonderful path. Please email me anytime you need a little encouragement. It would be my pleasure to share a few tips or ideas that worked for us.
