Doors and Art (12JAN2022)

Hello readers, this week’s Thursday Doors’  post is featuring doors with art.

Let’s start with beautiful tile. 

#1: Lovely tiles around this old five-pane door from South Florida (these doors can be worth a lot of $ –  check out the next example)

Small blue tiles:

#2: An entrance way blasted with small blue tiles. When you walk by this building in South Florida you can really feel the fun vibe from the past.

Shoe art

#3:The Crocs store down in Key West. These Crocs can be aART FOR THE FEET.  I am not sure how it is around the world, but here in the States, Crocs are very popular. (not at our house though, but in society we see these shoes everywhere)

Question: What is a Northerner’s favorite wine?

Answer: “I wanna go to Florida”

(get it, whine…?)

#4: Green Door with artsy center, old mail slot, and no handle. The art on the right (depicting a lady walking in St Augustine) was from down the street from this door, and they seemed to pair well together (St Augustine, FL – 2021)

#5: On the way to the exit door (shown right) look how LOW the ceiling is – hence the sign. This was in St. Augustine and I guess this building was built in the late 1700’s (and it is now the VERY popular Harry’s restaurant).

#6: Door with Doggy-art welcome (woof). I was recently sharing with Trent that we have been dog sitting a young pup and this dog is SO much fun. However, it is also “a threat to productivity” because an hour of playing can go by in a snap.

    1. Hi Jo, I can see St Augustine as your kind of place for sure – and I’d feel that door too – and then get a weather proof and “secure” kind of storm door

    1. Hahaha – yeah and I think if someone was buying that door it would have to be for the charm and nostalgia – because if I were to pay that much for a door, I want it weather proof and more updated – hahah – thanks for the comment

  6. Coolness. Some of the older parts of FL still retain the funky charm I remember from when I was a kid. I like the joke, nice wine!

    1. They really have Nora, and I remember in the late 2000s when I had a pair with fur inside and they were great slippers – and then remember a while after that my friend had them in sandals with a high heel – crazy cool – hahah

  10. The green door with the artsy center would have been my favorite, even with a handle. But the fact it doesn’t have one. . slam dunk winner for yours truly.

    As for the lady walking in St. Augustine, it reminds me of the late LeRoy Neiman.

Hi Mark, thanks for introducing me to LeRoy Neiman’s art – you are so right – it has a very similar vibe – and I am curious if it is one of his (I doubt it but the net time we are there – because we might blow through the town in order to eat at Harry’s the next time we visit family south of there – and I will see if the artist info is available)

      1. I remember Neiman painting some of the great moments and personalities in sports. I had a poster of Ali vs Liston when I was a boy, tucked between my Evil Knievel and Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders posters. And if THAT doesn’t date me.

  11. These are such interesting (and in some cases VERY expensive) doors. I could have spent tons of time thinking about the first one alone.
    BTW – Productivity pales beside a dog’s unconditional love! 😀

  15. I’ve been to St. Augustine twice and would love to go back. The doors, buildings, and food are wonderful. The last time I was there was oh…2018 I think and it was the hottest summer day on record. It was hot and sticky for sure, but fun.

    I love the teal door best in this series.

  19. Love those tiles! I also love the variety of entranceways and doors that you’ve captured. In a snapshot they feature that unmistakable vibe of Florida. And yes, I do want to go to Florida now!

    1. Hi Keith – that is how I felt a while back and being part of the door challenge has made me notice doors more and more (and I guess not all are artsy – but they do make statements – ad whisper of different moods and vibes eh?)

  23. These are some exquisite, not to mention pricey, doors you’ve captured here Yvette. The blue tile photo was my favorite – very beautiful. I’ve never owned a pair of Crocs, though I admit they look comfy, but no support … I’d probably fall off them, even with the heel strap!

Hi Linda – Crocs are everywhere and I think some people find support in them – but not necessarily for the walking you do – haha – and my boys had Crocs many years ago – and then even had the fleece-lined crocs one year – but I think those were “knock-off” brands – either way – they would never wear them now – but so many folks do – I see them everywhere

      1. Now they have the Crocs jewelry. I was at the store last Summer and a girl had these charms dangling from the perforations in the Crocs. All these little baubles and reminded me of charm bracelets that were all the rage back in the day.
