Monday Morning Blooms & Music Monday (Simple Man by Shinedown & She’s Gone by Hall & Oates)

Happy Monday readers

Here are some tulip photos that are hot off the Priorhouse press.

We had fun listening to old school music while doing house stuff over the weekend.  Songs sound so much better coming through really good speakers. It was like a music fest.

I am sharing my top two songs from Sunday’s jamming  – because they were so delightful – (felt like tulips blooming in the spring).

***

First song, Simple Man, covered by the band Shinedown – whew. This was done a long time ago but it was new to me and really loved the vocals. Also, the lyrics offer up some wisdom:

Momma told me…

“Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied”

***

The second song, which was offered as a “suggestion” to listen to next, is Hall & Oates singing “She’s Gone” – these type of songs were part of my childhood – – and so memory lane was strolled – while also making new memories for March 2022.  Also, because the song suggested was the 1976 live version, it was fresh and so I stopped to enjoy the extra nuances that come from a live performance. If you have a listen – let me know what you think.

Okay, here are the rest of the tulip photos for this post.

beautiful, tall, and strong, baby

Hope you have a great Monday

  1. First of all, those tulips are incredible, Yvette. I love all the different angles and perspectives, especially the first one with its shadow. I never had tulips but yours take me down my own memory lane of all the gorgeous sunflowers I grew from seeds when I lived in Sacramento. I adored my hydrangeas and homegrown plumeria but always cherished the red American Beauty roses which my mom loved every time she would visit. I remember the Hall and Oates song but not familiar with the other one. Have a great week and glad you shared your music memories with us!

    1. Hi Terri! I feel like I know your momma from your recent post and the little note here! What a woman!
And I cannot put tulips in the ground where I live because they get eaten up and then a couple of years ago I realized I could host them in containers – and now I have some again – but only half the photos in this post are of my tulips – all of the pink and a couple darker ones – and the shadow photo was from my porch – I opened the door and saw it and grabbed a pic – then it led to this post!
Wishing you a great week – with music, flowers, and momma memories 💕

  2. Hi Yvette!
Oh my goodness, your tulips are absolutely beautiful! And you have such a variety. The photos are amazing! We do the same thing when working on house stuff we will put on some good tunes. Thanks for sharing some music, I love music that is nostalgic!

    1. Hi Diana – only half the tulips in this post are mine (I grabbed some last minute at our local German discount store and cannot put them in the ground here because they get eaten up each year (so containers only but daffodils don’t get eaten)
And cheers to letting music help us plow through house projects! I took down a huge shelf that we custom put up during the pandemic start two years ago – it never worked right for me needs and it was bittersweet getting it down (the anchors left holes and have to plug those) but it needed to go! On to new things now 😉

    1. Thanks so much Restless Jo! And the Ild Gray Whistle Test show seems like it was one amazing platform for bands! It was new to me until this weekend
And hope your week is off to a wonderful start!

  3. Hi Yvette,

Superb photos, as always. I’d not heard of Shinedown before, though they have had a couple of hit albums here, apparently. I quite liked this, but I think on balance I prefer the Lynyrd Skynyrd original. And thanks for the memories with the Hall and Oates one: that was one of the occasions when the OGWT gave their whole show over to a live performance with an audience, as opposed to their usual studio sessions. I remember watching this one when it was first broadcast!

    1. Omg – what a great thing to have seen live, DJ Clive! And that OGWT show seems like out was a great show! Watching this video was a highlight and so was hearing the singer of Shinedown so Simple Man. I like it better than the LS version – but for other songs I prefer the Lynard Skynard band – especially for free bird.

      1. I only saw it on tv, I wasn’t there! The OGWT was a great show, and gave us access to music other than the mainstream chart stuff that was on shows like Top of the Pops. Each to their own, I guess, but I’ll stick with LS on this one – and nobody has ever come close to them with Free Bird!

  4. I think of Hall and Oates as being an 80s band. Still bubble-gum pop with a hint of R&B, but I do like the mini-moog solo in this version. (Daryl Hall did some work with the more experimental side of music in the late 70s/early 80s, but his record company wouldn’t let him release it because they thought it would ruin his image!)

    1. Hi Trent – thanks for your comment because I almost added a note about Hall had some show where musicians and folks would come this house and jam out! And I saw a few of those episodes and so seeing the young Daryl hall in this video was like “wow” – and then as I watched the video I marveled at his longevity and talent – so I am not surprised to hear he had creative projects that were put on a shelf – kind of sad too but I guess marketing requires certain things for certain goals?
And love your description “bubble-gum pop with a hint of R&B”

      1. Just looking it up, Daryl Hall and Robert Fripp gave tapes to Hall’s album “Sacred Songs” to a bunch of disc jockeys, and these people loved it so much that the record company finally did release it after a few years, but they made Robert Fripp remove all of the Daryl Hall songs from his album “Exposure”, so he (Hall) is only heard on two songs (Fripp got other artists to fill in). I have no idea why the record company thought that. Just look up poor John Mellencamp’s experience with stupid record companies (remember Johnny Cougar?)

  5. I’d never heart Shinedown before. Thanks for the intro. And, of course, I grew up with Hall and Oates too. Beautiful tulips, Yvette. A perfect symbol of spring. We’re still a month away from those, but soon! Thanks for the morning smiles.

    1. Hi author D…. I knew a hit song that Shinedown had, but their version of Simple Man was new to me – that lead singer has some serious pipes!
And hope your week is off to a great start 😊

    1. Hi ally – I actually think of a few bloggers with tulips – and you and Joey are two of them- so I remembered that about you from some time ago.
Glad to share some floral beauty on a Monday- 😊

      1. Me too! It should be soon, but we had more snow over the week-end so I hope that didn’t kill any new buds that popped up while had some sun the week before.

    1. Tulips really are a sign of spring and I am happy I found a way to have some – it is by keeping them in containers and not in the ground where they get eaten or just disappear (the daffodils do not get eaten)
And cheers to spring being close 😊☀️☀️☀️

    1. Hi carol! Finding that hall and Oates video was a treat (and this is why I sometimes do not like playlists made ahead of time! Sometimes the youtube suggestions bring up some fresh selections we never knew of! And that OGWT was new to me! Looks like it was a fantastic program

  8. It was Yvette…some of the old programs were so much better than some of them now or maybe it’s just us living in the past with our music…lol…

    1. It could be a generation preference – who knows – but that also was a time when TV was everything – before the internet and all this streaming

  9. Beautiful blooms Yvette and I really like the ones up top with the shadows – very nice! We have a while to have blooming tulips, but I saw a few green shoots from last weekend’s warm weather. I didn’t know the first song, but knew the second one by Hall & Oates.

      1. Our wintry mix last night and tonight and wind chills in the teens will likely zap anything that was trying to break through the soil. There is a church I pass daily on my walks to/from the Park. A woman maintained the extensive around the church. She was maybe in her 40s/early 50s. She had perennials in the side garden, roses near the entrance. The garden kind of “went to pot” last year – I wondered if she was ill. I went to see if anything was coming up yesterday and they’ve put river rock all the way around. What a disappointment as I always stopped and took photos of tulips and all the Spring bloomers.
