GIVE A LITTLE BIT (Goo Goo Dolls Live in Buffalo & Water Outreach)

Good Afternoon Readers,

Last week I was stopped at a light and right in front of me I saw someone giving a little bit of love.

***

It was such a nice thing to witness – and I have times when I am the one reaching out the window.  I know everyone has mixed feelings about ways to reach out – and I sometimes see the signs that ask us not to give to people on corners, but we have to follow our heart.

Anyhow, If anyone is interested, my so n is doing a Charity: Water fundraiser this month. His goal is to try and help 62 people get clean drinking water.

***UPDATE: FUNDRAISER ENDED*** Many Thanks to those of you that supported his outreach.

CLOSING SONG

I will close with this Goo Goo Doll cover of Supertramp’s “Give a Little Bit” song. This is from their live in Buffalo, NY concert in 2004. Man, I sure wish we could have gone to this and we were actually in Buffalo in June 2004 – just a few weeks before this concert. Also, not sure if you can see some of the buildings in the video but downtown Buffalo has some amazing Art Deco buildings from the early 1900s.

Really beautiful and one time the weather channel newsman even commented on how wonderful city hall looked during a snow storm.

Okay – here is the song:

Hope you have a great day!

  1. AWWW, what a wonderful post Yvette! Giving a little bit is what it’s all about ❤ and the video is PERFECT! I enjoyed it immensely and it also brought back fond memories too. Buffalo NY looks so beautiful, the buildings there amazing! Here’s to helping when and where we can and its wonderful what your son is doing. Thank you for sharing the link. 😀

    1. Hi Diana – Buffalo has a lot of “not so pretty” parts with the strong industrial background (part of the steel belt) but the city is so much more than snow and lake effect – ha!
Thanks for reading and may we all find little ways to give when we can – becauee it is good for society but also really good for the giver!
      Have a great day!

    1. Hi Jt – yes – very proud – and it was my husband that first discovered charity water a handful of years ago – and that organization does a lot of great work

  2. You’ve managed to capture a lovely piece of kindness there. But the Goo Goo Dolls? Please! The Supertramp original is so much better 😂

    1. Hi Clive, a few years ago I made a video montage of my nephew (RIP) and used both versions of this song and it was win-win – but the video was deleted (sniff) anyhow- I might have to agree with you that supertramp’s is better. I was never a huge Goo Goo Dolls fan, but my step-daughter was (and is) and because I have a Buffalo connection I went with that version for today –

      1. I can understand your reasoning, and I’m sorry to hear of your nephew. It’s a pity the Supertramp one was deleted, but hopefully there are others – it’s too good a song to be missing from YouTube!

        1. Hi – well I accidentally deleted my YouTube channel when I changed emails (again – lol) and then the backup for about eight videos was overwritten and so I lost a few projects that were very custom. It hurt at first but I got over it – lol -and it helped me to remember to hold things loosely – even pics and videos

        2. YouTube can be like that. If I ever need to log into it on a device where my usual details haven’t been saved it always gives me two options. One of them has everything I’ve done there, the other has nothing, so I know where you’re coming from on this!

  3. How neat that you captured this giving through your camera lens. Yes, we always wonder what is the best thing to do when we see panhandlers while we’re stopped.at the traffic lights, etc. I’m not sure money is the answer, but if I had a sandwich, or a gift card to a cafe, that would be worthwhile. Your son sounds very special! (I’ll now be singing that song all day long!) 🙂

    1. Hi- there was a simple little book that came out back in 2006 (I think that was the year) but the book was called “Under the Overpass” and two guys went from the Denver Rescue Mission to California posing as homeless men and panhandlded their way across each state. There were many little takeaways but a HUGE one for me was how they said the “free meals in the park” were a rescue for them. So I agree with you about offering food – even though we heard a girl in NYC offered her restaurant leftovers to a man with a sign – and he said “You ate all the meat?” and gave it back. She was vegan and there was no meat.
Anyhow, I do give money (when I have cash on hand) and never give more than a dollar or two.

  4. Good for your son, Yvette! I’m always conflicted about giving to people who are begging. I know giving money isn’t the best but I don’t have anything else with me. I should work on that. Thanks for the encouragement.

  5. What a wonderful initiative by your son, Chad. Clean drinking water is the most precious resource on earth! And we take it for granted. I can understand people’s quandary about giving – when I visited Nepal, the guides told us not to give to the beggers as it encourages them. Gosh that was difficult when we have so much to their so little.

    1. Thanks Cindy –
I know you are busy but if you ever get the chance you should read the bio of the guy who founded charity water – he had that paradigm shift and left the party world to live a life of outreach

  6. I think you are right: you have to follow your heart so I made a small donation to help Chad’s fundraising. I regularly give a small amount to a charity called Wateraid because we all need clean water to live. Touching to see people caring and being kind in whatever circumstances. And it made me feel a little better too to make a connection and give something. So thank you for that! Lovely also to have at peek at your part of the world! Happy birthday to your son and congratulations to you too.

  7. That is moving to see Yvette and that’s a great cause that Chad is working on. I was at Council Point Park one time and there was a 5K walk going on for Walk for Water. I Googled and read up on them as I’d join a 5K event if they had it again … it hadn’t had any publicity or I would have done it that day. It is https://www.hhi.org/walk4water

And Linda – if you get to join the walk 4 water sometime – please let me know because I chip in

      1. That’s great Yvette! I just looked and I see it in RVA. I sent you an e-mail I received today from them. I have been getting e-mails since I signed up after they had the walk. I got to the Park and they were finishing up and had tee-shirts and I stopped to talk to them and said they should have advertised as some walkers may have joined in the fundraising efforts. They told me that it was a group with Bethel Assembly of God, a church here in the City, Nothing so far in Michigan on their website and when I checked they said “no 5Ks here – why not start one?” I will keep checking and let you know – will you do the April 5K then Yvette?
