Two River Cities: Austin, TX & Richmond, VA (What are you grateful for?)

Hello Readers,

Husband is back from Austin, Texas and while walking through Richmond last night, I was comparing these “river cities”

RICHMOND, VA

Train

As we were walking, a family began raising their arms at the conductor. There was this simple, yet potent, joy in the air.

BIKES in RVA

Austin, Texas

The hubs was in Austin to visit son2 and to attend the Keto Con Conference (more on that another time) but there was plenty of wonderful life-giving meat!

It was fun to walk and compare river cities. It was great to have our other son with us and then making this post reminded me how beautiful life can be in spite of challenges. Or maybe how beautiful life can be BECAUSE of challenges, Right?

  • It really is how we approach things.
  • Attitude really does determine latitude.
  • And when Collette said “what a wonderful life I had, I wish I had known sooner” – Maybe we all can have more intentional moments to smile and see the wonderful parts of life right now!
  • Our unique journey here is not done and it has many good things to come!

After the walk near downtown – returned home and the flowers whispered yet another message.

I saw hope with the new buds ready to open – which reminded me that new things are unfolding everyday. They are ours to embrace!

Yesterday, I wrote about “death and dying” – here–  which led to a reminder about how we all need to lighten up and stress less!

So on this “Sweet Saturday” I am feeling grateful. Not for some of our huge successes or honors or accolades – but for being human and having legs that work – and for having a heart that allows me to love and be loved.
💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜

What about you?
What are you grateful for today?

    1. Thanks JT a and both cities have some similarities but also quite opposite!

  1. I visited Austin for a couple of days just to meet friends and eat bbq. I didn’t see much of the city. The bbq is fantastic! I’m grateful for family, friends, and the blogging community. 😄

    1. Hi – I was lucky enough to have BBQ in Austin a few times and never knew how much I loved BBQ
And of course the salsa-world/traveler made his rounds to stop in Austin – such a wonderful city

    1. Thanks for sharing what you are hateful for, sorryless ☀️🙏

And I think any kind of water access can be nice – like the Great Lakes areas or coastal spots
And one reason I don’t want to move back to Denver – too land locked and not enough water

  2. Attitude does indeed determine latitude. I am grateful for the fact that my injury seems to be healing and it has revealed that I do need some parts of my replaced hip to be renewed. That will make my hip less painful and that will be better for my riding! Just have to keep my attitude good and up until I get through all of it.

    1. Oh you sure are modeling such a great attitude
With your setback – and hope the hip will be back to where it needs to be very soon

  4. I’m grateful for the rain we got recently, for finding a doctrinally sound church doing all sorts of things churches should be doing, not just taking care of members, for our family and new grandson, for being able to go to Wyoming in less than a week, for food, for books…is that enough? 😉🥰

    1. Hahah yes – that is enough – for now at least – ☀️☀️☀️
      – finding the right church can be so difficult so that is a huge win!
And best wishes as you prepare for Wyoming

    1. Hi Diana – I am grateful for our friendship and thanks for the kind words!
Also, your blog posts frequently share your gratitude items so I actually almost knew what you would add here – lol
And how about “grateful for a little more space without the family heirloom grand piano?”
      Jk

      1. Yes, haha! It is freeing to have more space and knowing it has been repurposed in some way with piano parts. It was in a sad state so I’m happy it’s moved on!! 😀

  6. Your son’s fat-tire bike is very cool looking. I toy with the idea of getting a bike to tool around in the bigger parks when retired, but will just keep on walking until I have to shorten those treks by interspersing them with the bike. I have an exercise bike in the basement and should use it more in the Winter months when I don’t walk as much. When I was growing up we lived in Oakville and went to visit my grandmother in Toronto, some 25 miles away. We’d go the same route by car and there was a railroad track … Mom always said wave to the caboose and I can remember the delight if the engineer tooted the horn or one of his helper’s waved from the caboose window. Simple joys.

I am grateful for my good health, something I never take for granted as heart disease runs in the family, my mom had serious orthopedic and various medical issues. I hope to stay healthy for a long time, both physically as well as mentally.

      Thanks for sharing!
I could feel your joy as a child with the conductor and the horn rooting
And that was what we felt with this family / 🚂

      Also, you are Grateful
      For some wonderful things
Cheers to good health and doing what we need to do to maintain it

  7. [Unrelated to the post, but sometimes in Reader I comment and do so using paragraphs to break up the comment to create white space in between. I just did a lengthy response on your Dying-Part Two post and created paragraphs and they didn’t “take” – it worked this time. Hmm.]

    1. I like how you break up the sections – and it puzzles me why it doesn’t always work
Because for me – my comments sometimes get all lumped even if I add space breaks
I think there is a default to remove extra spaces – not sure – so sometimes I add ****** to break it up

      1. Well especially on that very long comment that I made. I thought it was likely difficult to read since it wasn’t broken down into various thoughts and more white space. That’s a good idea … maybe I’ll do that too. And I hate when WP puts in breaks for you. Grrr.

  8. I have been to the river in Austin many times, walked along the paths and seen the bats fly. Fabulous experience. These photos do it justice!

    1. Hi Jan
I just saw some photos of the bats and did not see them when I was there – how amazing to see them in their flock like that
And thanks for checking out this post

    1. Hi Shelley – I do think of YOU when I was making this post (and almost linked you but I am work out with linking all
The time and that is why I haven’t done a few of the challenges I like to do – sometimes I just want to write a post and hit publish without the linking)
But I did think of you and your hubs and will let you know when I post about it – well

I didn’t go so I will share a few tidbits from the hubs and then also he got a free book and so I will mention that (not sure I liked the book) and then there is also a 30 day challenge we are doing august 1st – so i will mention that too

      1. No worries, just wanted to let you know I’m interested in reading about your experiences with Keto. There are so many ‘takes’ on it and the longer we do it the more we learn what works and what doesn’t.

        1. Yes- I agree
And I have told you before that I LOVE how you share about your journey with Diet changes and the way you share which books spoke to you the most
You share in a way that lets us feel “what worked for you guys” and “how you got there” and “how you still have “room to expand and grow”
Anyhow – I will link you when get the post up –
          Have a great day

        2. Thanks, Yvette. It’s been a fun journey that we’re still learning about. I look forward to your next post.
PS – we tried your recipe and it was great! We’ll make it again.
PSS – I listened to Dr. Boz’s speech from KetoCon – have you listened to it? She’s great and I can’t wait to read her book. Her connection to brain health is an important link for people to take notice of. Especially with the skyrocketing of dementia. All preventable with diet!
          Have a great day!

        3. Hi
I need to check out What Box posted (Wish I had more time this week to dive even more into to it but oh well)
And regarding the dementia and brain
I heard it was the “third type of disbetes”
          And Max lugavere
          Has a great book called
          “Bread head”
And also – on Max’s podcast he has an absolutely must listen episode called

“The surprising ways alcohol is ruining you life”

        4. I tried to find the link I watched, but can’t. I did catch her most recent podcast where she revealed her A1C score from the trip. I was amazed that mine was lower than hers! Guess we’re doing something right. There’s so much information out there to sift through!
Thanks for the suggestion – I’ll check Max’s podcast out. I have several books on the dementia connection. I’ll add this one to my TBR list.
