PRIORHOUSE INTERVIEW with FRANK ANGLE @Beach Walk Reflections

Hello Readers, I was pleasantly surprised when Frank informed me that his 148th Beach Walk Reflection post was featuring some Priorhouse photography. The theme this week is WEEDS and I invite you to check out Frank’s post HERE.

My top quotes from Frank’s post:

1. “Life involves times of being deep in the weeds with troubles and problems. While some may get weeded out because they are unfit, unwanted, or unqualified, there are times when we must plow through the weeds to find a better place.”

2. “I think about how weeds relate to personal life. Everyone has a variety of weeds, thorns, and coarse stems in life – things that grow and crowd more desirable thoughts, traits, and actions. Our minds need to minimize weeds to grow and learn throughout life. I think about how biases, prejudices, and ignorance are weeds in our personal and mental gardens.”

3.  “The bottom line is that weeds make the most of what they have.”

This is also a great time for a mini interview with Frank. And in case you missed it,  last month’s interview featured author Ana Linden (here).

I am sure that many readers already know Frank because he blogged for years at “A Frank Angle – and he had a huge following there. This Priorhouse post from 2018 – here– has some of his stats he shared on the 10-year anniversary.  Frank then took a blog break and eventually came back with the idea for the (very popular) Beach Walk Reflections series.

“My wife and I walk a lot during our winter as snowbirds in the south – something we’ve done since 2017. Our southern getaway can be cold, then again, no matter how cold the temperature gets on the beach, it is always warmer than home.

The roots for Beach Walk Reflections dates back to A Frank Angle. My aim here is to share my thoughts hoping to stimulate your thoughts.”

~ Frank Angle (here)

Frank is also a contributor on the Sorry….Less blog (here) and that leads to the first question.

PRIORHOUSE: I enjoy the articles on your blog and when featured over at Marc’s place, which is the Sorry…less blog. How often are you a guest writer for Sorry…less blog?

Frank: When I closed A Frank Angle” – Marc invited me to post on Sorryless whenever I wanted to contribute. Because of the way I’m wired, I always submit a draft to Marc for approval/disapproval. Other than the monthly transitions, we don’t have a set schedule. After all, sometimes I’m spontaneous.

PRIORHOUSE: Yes, you are spontaneous but you also seem to have consistent structure with your posts and seasonal planning. Today is September 7th, 2022 – and that means there are 115 days left in the year. Do you have any specific goals or plans for the rest of 2022?

Frank: My wife and I love to travel and Covid put a dent into our travel plans. We hope to complete one more trip before the end of the year. We simply hope we are able to go, so I’m not saying where.

PRIORHOUSE: Out of all the beach walks you take – what is your favorite beach to stroll on?  I like the Emerald Coast in Florida’s panhandle. They have that clear, green water and white sand. So Destin, FL is a top walking beach for us.

Frank: Because the world has many great beaches, here’s the type of beach that I like. The beach at the waterline should be easy to walk: relatively flat with fine sand that is packed into a seemingly solid surface. I don’t like sinking. There are many wonderful beaches on the entire Panhandle region of the gulf.

PRIORHOUSE: I was pleasantly surprised to open your email, Frank, noting that the Priorhouse photos were going to be featured in the beach Walk Reflections post.  I was starting my day with a cup of coffee and so I was wondering what beverage you start the day with – do you have Coffee? Tea? Water?

Frank: My preferred morning drink is orange juice. Coffee is not my everyday thing, but I will occasionally have coffee when I’m out. Tea is good in the afternoon or the evening.

PRIORHOUSE: After our recent email exchange, our family watched the start to Amazon Prime’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” (2022) series. Are you a fan of Tolkien’s Hobbit or Lord of the Rings?

Frank: I am not really a Lord of the Rings fan. I saw the first movie, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), but because I did not read the book, the movie was just okay.  Are you enjoying the current Amazon series?

PRIORHOUSE: No, I did NOT enjoy the start to the Prime Video series. I actually had to stop watching because the writing was so shallow and it was not in the credence with Tolkien’s essence. My advice to the folks at Amazon is to spend more money on a team of writers and in that team, include some literature experts. It will be money well spent!
If Prime Video is going to spend so much money on filming a series (location, costumes, makeup, music, editing, etc.) then they should invest more money into the basic writing and script development. This seems to be a common problem with a lot of Amazon Originals (IMO) – where many of their shows have below average writing with sophomoric details. Or their shows start strong and then fizzle into flat stories. Sometimes the acting is flat as well – but the studio really needs to hire literature experts who can contribute to advanced story development.
Because the current series is set thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, they need to have literature experts offer important insight and information for story alignment, plot layers, and enriched character development.

PRIORHOUSE: Okay Frank, Let’s end this mini interview with some music. What do you prefer for easy listening or relaxing?

Frank: My taste in music is very wide, so my choice is whatever comes to mind. I like instrumentals, so sometimes it’s New Age or classical. Other times it’s some of my favorite ballroom dance music, which isn’t orchestral! It may be classic rock, collections of our favorite songs we hear at the beach, or even an Argentina Tango station on Pandora.

PRIORHOUSE: The pandora tango station sounds interesting – and I found this Argentinian Tango instrumental on YouTube:

PRIORHOUSE: Thanks for your time Frank. This mini-interview was fun.

Frank: It was my pleasure.

PRIORHOUSE:  Oh and Frank did NOT mention Marijuana, which many folks think of with the word  “weed” (and he sure didn’t need to “roll” that into his post because it was quite complete) – but I thought I would close with a photo of some resin art I saw at an art booth last week.

This was the bottom of a tray and a lady named Jody bought it for $25.00

Closing reminder to readers –

Please check out Frank’s post – he has done a great job exploring weeds – how we view them, how we manage and remove/use them – how weeds adapt and grow, how not all weeds are bad, and then some of his thoughts offered life metaphors. Like the two quotes mentioned at the start of this post: “There are times when we must plow through the weeds to find a better place.” and “The bottom line is that weeds make the most of what they have.” We humans often need to plow through to reach a better place and the plowing can give us a better appreciation – and then we also can make the most of what we have – because contentment is learned.

  1. I remember my father going to Destin on a business trip and telling us it was a major tourist destination because it had the most beautiful beach. I have yet to walk a Florida beach but really want to.

      1. I remember that from the film “Sweet Home Alabama.” I guess you have to have most of your edges as a beach (like Hawaii, California, or Florida) for people to think you’ve got good ones. 😀

    1. Hi Chel, when i first visited destin for a wedding in 2004, I thought it was nice but that was about it – it was after a storm and I wish I had taken photos of the beat up shoreline.
They also said it was the playground for the Midwest and so in many ways it didn’t feel the Florida I was familiar (east coast and Tampa)
Anyhow – my step daughter and her family brought us to tha area a few years ago and that was when I appreciated the green water and white sand – even though most Gulf and Atlantic Ovean beaches always seem mild compared to the California coast.
Okay – when you do make it to Destin or the party handle area – I am sure it will inspire your writing

  2. A fascinating post. I don’t have Amazon Prime but am not a fan of Lord of the Rings anyway. I read The Hobbit and that was enough for me. I do have a copy of Lord of the Rings beautifully illustrated by the Crown Princess of Denmark when she was a student. Should I read it?

    1. Hi Derrick – I am not a fan of this kind of fiction (and could change at some point in my life) and so regarding you checking out that awesome copy you have –/ well I say give it a try for a handful of pages and then just close it if it drains you!
The jest series of movies from the early 2000s were a hit with my family and so in January 2005, I did a bing watching if all three – this was before binging was “in” like it is now and it was also the slow start to me even watching movies and shows (I am still not a huge TV/movie watcher but prior to 2005 it was close to nada).
Anyhow, why am I not surprised that you have a unique copy of Lord of the Rings??

  3. Love the tango music, Yvette. Wish I could do that dance. I’ve followed Frank pretty regularly but didn’t know about Sorry..less, and hadn’t seen Weeds yet but I’m off there next. Thanks for the nudge!

  4. Thank you, thank you, thank you for promoting Beach Walk Reflections and for exceeding my expectations. Glad you came up with the idea many months ago! I invite your readers to stop by the beach. After all, I don’t bite.

  5. What a fun post, Yvette. I adore Frank’s posts and often quote him, or he links to my WQW post if it is on a topic he has covered. When I come up with my list of topics for the year, I have studied Frank’s list of topics for inspiration. This is a great interview. I never knew about Sorry, less… I can’t wait to read his post about weeds. I love your glass bowl with weed leaves. I also loved your comments about Amazon Prime movies. We never know what we will read in your posts, but they are always wonderfully interesting. BTW, I linked this post to my WQW post this week because most of my quotes for this week are from you. I hope you remember a long time ago I told you I was copying your words to use in a nutrition post. Well, today is the day! I added a few photos and some stories, and Voila an almost instant post. Was I ever glad I had saved those comments of yours! I completely forgot today was Wednesday and the timing of having them available was perfect.

Your comment brought a huge smile for a few reasons and this is the second little blog surprise of the week (Frank’s was the first)
And I am truly humbled that you saved some of my tidbits and they now made it into a post!

I look forward to reading it and will be over soon!☀️😊

I have been wanting to join in with WQW so that is another win for today – that Frank’s post is getting linked!
Also, I can see why you have used his topics for inspiration because the almost 150 posts he had made with Beach Walk Reflections have such varied topics (and I shake me head sometimes at how he takes a tooic – like blood – and can mold and shape a post that really does let us ponder with him.

☀️☀️ Frank thanks again for getting back with me for a mini interview opp this week!☀️☀️

Lastly – that art with the weed leaves ? – well the reason I didn’t buy it was because it had the marijuana leaf shaped on the bottom – ((I support pot being legal but it is not my thing))
the top of the art piece was spectacular – and called to me at the art display –
And actually I also was slow to buy it because I don’t need or want more “stuff” right now (and already have a real glass art piece that is similar) so I was glad when the Jody lady bought that art piece – hahah🎨🖌

      1. Marijuana is not my thing either, and I might not have even recognized the leaf shape if it had not been legalized. It was pretty. I sure get what you are saying about “stuff. I am so innundated with stuff. We are putting together two households and it is amazing that in two years we have accumulated so much stuff.

I tried to fix it that twice and might not have saved it – but the fourth one was the end of the first when I made the post and then I realized it was doubled and took it out –
Anyhow – going to fix it to three

  7. Hi Yvette, a lovely, lovely post. Not all weeks are useless as you mention. Some have medicinal properties and some are very pretty. I love dandelions. I enjoyed your interview with Frank who is an engaging and interesting person.

    1. Hi Robbie
Such a great point about the weeds that can be so beautiful – and my nephew got me a small sigh that says “may all your weeds be wildflowers” which just so happened to match our new kitchen paint – so I hung it up and never really hang stuff like that –

🙏cheers to the medicinal properties and I think the gentle liver support formula I take from Logos vitamins has a little dandelion in 💊🌱🍃

Appreciate you joining us for this mini interview

  8. Yet another beautiful interview, Yvette. Great job! I particularly like the quote about weeds making the best of what they have – something to remember. All the photos and mentions about Frank’s beach walks made me think of my cold winter beach walks to come. 🙂

    1. Hi Ana
Those cold beach walks to come sound quite inviting – and reminded me how lucky (blessed) you are to have such easy year-round beach access ☀️😊☀️
And this was a last minute mini-interview that really was a fun way to start September – the next interview is with equinoxio (Brian) and is more of a full-length one – and I just realized that it is fun to have variety in interviews!
Thanks for checking out this one and for leaving the comment

    1. Hi Shelley – thanks for reading both posts – and I watched the video with Dr. Berg and he sounds like he has a very natural lawn if he has ran of dandelions – and I think they are the worse weed to have because their tap root goes deep and it ruins the lawn – so I wrestle with letting a lawn stay too natural (always learning tho)….

      1. You’re welcome. That’s so funny, that’s what I thought too. I believe he lives in Wisconsin and he and his wife have a hobby farm, so it’s easy to let the dandelions grow and reap the benefits of them. He obviously doesn’t have a bunny or ground squirrel problem like I do. The dandelions were short-lived this year. The scoundrels loved eating them.
We are always learning – that’s a good thing!

        1. Hi Shelley – this is something g we can chat more about later – but this summer I did an animal based diet (the AB30) and they don’t recommend most veggies – I am still learning more about why / but most are considered survival foods and according to some studies – because of the lectins and other barriers plants put out / humans aren’t getting the phytonutrients from greens – esp tough ones like dandelion and kale
Again, not my expert area but there is some merit to “we are what we absorb” and some of the medicinal benefits from certain greens will never be attained in a salad.
          Hmmm
Oh and I sent you an email – have something to bounce your way …..

        2. Funny you mention that…we’ve morphed more so into animal based diet. We rarely eat veggies, and if we do, they’re seasonal. I do enjoy avocados to start the day and wild frozen blueberries to end the day in Greek Yogurt.
I agree, the plants aren’t the best thing for us to eat. And there is merit to what you’ve learned so far!
Okay – I saw the email now and replied. I look forward to reading your post!

        3. Thanks for sharing and it sounds like you do the meat and fruit diet so naturally (and avocados are a fruit – right? And by the way a i just don’t enjoy them that much – even tho we do buy this all natural guac by the caseload when it is on a blowout sale – but the daily avocado is not for my liking)
And so glad you got the email – I don’t mean to squeeze in another mini interview right now – but when Marsha hide to publish her court health post this week – I knew it was time to check I with you officially because as I have said before -/ I really like how you share about health and nutrition (I like how Marsha does too) and I will check out the email
Hope your morning is going well

It was a great one. Outdoor I’m fairly ok but indoor; not so much! Funny how plants are. They with love a spot and the environment and grow like weeds or not at all.
Oh thanks a lot. Fingers fine now, but the water damage on my computer is now toast. Such a bummer! Thanks for the wishes! 💕❤️💕

  10. As an avid walker who has been on various terrain since beginning my walking regimen in 2011, I’ve yet to walk on a beach … seeing these photos, I know that needs to be rectified. The beach photos are beautiful and inviting and congratulations to you Yvette. Thank you for this interview with Frank and now I have that Tango music as an ear worm (which is not so bad).

    1. Hi Linda – sorry about the ear worm – I had it for a while too and like you said – it wasn’t “so bad” – ha
and I have a feeling that you will get your beach walks in – and int he meantime you sure do get to walk near enough water.
And that reminds me – I did a mini interview with about your walks a while back – but it was before I had my new format going. Maybe we can redo your interview and use the new format. No hurry – but I have been meaning to ask you.

      1. I have been trying to get to one of our State parks that is about a 50-mile round trip from here. I have made plans at least a half-dozen times and each time I plan to go, there is major construction/detours in the area, once a chemical spill nearby so all beaches were closed for a few weeks, plus it is a camping site, so I’ve stayed away on a holiday weekend and thru the Summer. It DOES have a beach, so that will be where I go – hopefully this year. I pay extra on my driver’s license for State park privileges – the Metropark pass is a different type of park. Yes, I am often along the Detroit River as they have so many boardwalks and I love doing that.

Yes, no problem at all Yvette. I would be happy to redo our interview for the new format.

Sure – that will be fine. You do the same Yvette.

Well it sounds like you have known Frank much longer than I have – but I think I met him early on – but it was a little overwhelming some of those early months because of the flood of bloggers we meet – and I meandered away but then came back right as he was shutting down A Frank Angle!
And condolences again for the loss of your hubs 🙏
