Book Tour: Knuckleheads by Dan Antion- June 2022

Hello Readers,

Today I am participating in a book tour featuring Dan Antion’s book, Knuckleheads.

Two years ago, Dan was featured in a mini interview (here) at Priorhouse Blog. My husband and I visited the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area and it was fun to have Dan share about some of the areas we had seen.

So thank you, Dan, for saying yes to that mini interview back in 2020.

Dan: It was my pleasure and now I am honored to be back here to introduce my debut novel, Knuckleheads, which is the first book in the Dreamer’s Alliance Series.

It just so happens that the Knuckleheads book brings us to Pittsburgh – in setting for the series and with the book cover.

 

The cover photo was taken from the deck of the Gateway Clipper, as it’s about to pass under the Fort. Pitt bridge. The Fort Pitt bridge crosses the Monongahela River near “The Point,” where the Monongahela and the Allegheny Rivers merge to form the Ohio River.

Pittsburgh, PA is a river city and the rivers factor into all three books in the series. Although I haven’t lived in Pittsburgh in forty years, it remains the city in which I am most comfortable.

Priorhouse:  The choice to make Pittsburgh, PA the setting for your series seems like a good idea. I liked that the book cover has that black and gold – which gives us the colors of the city!
And how interesting that the debut novel is the start of a three-part series.

Dan: Yes – all three books will be released this year. The first book is this month, June 2022. The second book will be released in late August 2022 and the third book will follow in November 2022. The details will be updated on my blog at this page: https://nofacilities.com/my-books/

Priorhouse: Can you give us the SERIES overview?

Dan: The Dreamer’s Alliance Series chronicles the challenges and dangers faced by two men who have been gifted with paranormal abilities. From their struggles to understand and control these powers through their battle with the attempts of corrupt authorities to exploit them.

Priorhouse: Can you tell us about the FIRST book?

Dan: Yes, here are a few details:

  • Knuckleheads depicts the story of two boys who struggle to understand and control their paranormal powers that begin to emerge in fourth grade.
  • Knuckleheads is a childhood story, which is told by the recently retired Zach Amstead to his adult daughter, Abbie.
  • Abbie interrupts to ask questions, which allows the study to unfold.
    In the book, these interruptions are identified by special font and paragraph settings, which makes it easy to follow along with the adventure.
  • If folks like speculative fiction with a bit of snark, then they will likely enjoy this book.

Dan Antion was born outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He grew up and attended college in the area around western Pennsylvania. Dan has written and published the popular No Facilities blog since 2011. A lifelong interest in writing became a reality after he retired from a successful 42-year-long career in information management.
Knuckleheads, published in June 2022, is the first book in the Dreamer’s Alliance Series. This story introduces the main characters in this series, in which the next two books will follow in late summer and early winter 2022.
Dan lives in Connecticut with his wife, a few pets, and all the wildlife they can feed.

    1. Hi Dan!
      I think everyone needs to put Pittsburgh PA on their visit list because it is such a striking city – with the rivers and the bridges and those lookout views!
      Photos of the city are nice but to feel it in person is another thing! And from the excerpts I have skimmed – you really tie in the rivers and under the bridge experience!
      Also – I bet writing about a city you know and love made the process even more enjoyable!

      I met Dan in WordPress but we went to visit friends in Pittsburgh a couple of years ago – and I had some questions for Dan because he is from that area as a child –
      Sorry if it wasn’t clear!
      We only visited there for a weekend but plan to go back because it is a rich city with excellent lookouts (down views of the city) and then meandering roads through the city and around the water!
      It might not be the Shenandoah beauty you get all the time (biased on that – ha!) but as an old steel town and with Carnegie as my first thought of Pittsburgh – I was surprised To feel such a good energy there!

      1. A friend f mine, her mother was from Pittsburgh, and so she visited a lot when she was a child. She’s been a few times as an adult as well and really talks it up, so I get it. Plus the history is so rich there, how could we not love it? I wouldn’t mind visiting myself, especially with such personal recommendations.

        1. It’s a wonderful and unique city to visit. I return about once a year. There are many cultural offerings that you wouldn’t expect in an old industrial city.

      1. Yes – thanks Miriam and I look forward to your closing post for the book tour (I think I saw that you close) and Dan! I am not sure how it happened where I got to be the first of the tour – but it really felt special and you are pretty laid back and calm (too usual demeanor) but this has to be a huge rush !

      2. You’re welcome, Dan. Yvette is always very kind. She gave me her personal recommendations on some herbs. I have some unknown allergy so I stop taking herbs as instructed by my allergy doctor.

          Say it again- Miriam is an enigma with her talents and varied skills – (such a mix of gifts and then the best part is how she often uses them to connect and share- )
          🌱🍃🌿And regarding the herbs – I don’t even remember that and I don’t take very many either – I do take a “liver CS” formula (logos) but I can’t do too many herbs either. But I do take vitamins and minerals …🕺🏼

          Anyhow — day one of the book tour was so much fun and I am glad to have been part of it

        2. That tells how long we’ve followed each other, Yvette! 😃 We’ve had different conversations over the years.
          I’m taking vitamins and minerals also. I did a food diary and analysis of the nutrition intakes. Then take supplements of anything I don’t get enough from food.

        3. Yes – it does show how long we have been following each other and glad for our connection!
          Cheers to finding what our body needs – because it does take trial and error and then it is so custom – I am amazed at how what works for one person is not needed for someone else – and amazed that my own supplement needs have changed so much!

        4. Yes, our bodies changed overtime and our needs changed along with it. I had CT scan with iodine contrast for years for monitoring my cancer. After 7 years, I had severe allergic reaction to iodine. The imaging center instructed me to take Benadryl. I was even allergic to Benadryl. Good thing that I don’t need to do CT scan anymore. 🙂
          I look forward to host Dan on Friday. 🙂

  21. Hi Yvette, has it really been two years since you shared that interview with Dan? I feel a little shocked. It’s great to see him featured here with his new book. I am enjoying his interesting style of writing the book as a discussion with his daughter. I can’t say I’ve read another book quite like it.

      And the idea of having Abby ask questions reminded me of the princess bride – which is a movie my step daughter loved so much !!

  22. The books sound interesting. I was slightly put off by the ‘speculative’ genre, but I don’t really know what that means so I’d better find out before I have an uneducated bias against it.

Hi Norah – I liked your reply because I learned a few lessons in this area and was quick to buy books to support an author without really checking out the book first – so now I try to check – and I don’t know what speculative genre is either and am pretty sure it is not for me (for one I am not huge into fiction and second – I stay away from most paranormal for personal belief reasons – but I don’t mind some sci-fi and well – the options are many!
